We invite you to join us on our journey to provide equitable and anti-racist education honoring and empowering the students at Solano Community College.ABOUT THE DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: The Applied Technology & Business Division houses career technical education courses in fields such as Advanced Manufacturing, Aeronautics, Automotive Technology, Business, Cosmetology, Drafting, Occupational Education, Biomanufacturing, Human Services and Social Work, and Welding. The Cosmetology Program consists of one thousand (1,000) hours of intensive training and study designed to prepare the student to take the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology examination for licensure. We seek to hire a full-time Cosmetology Instructor to teach our students the technical and theoretical skills to enter the beauty industry as licensed professionals. We seek candidates who possess professional experience as a cosmetologist and a passion for teaching. DESCRIPTION: The successful candidate will participate with departmental colleagues in developing and expanding the curriculum in cosmetology, esthetics and nail technology, and other fields for course delivery on the Fairfield campus. They will work collegially and inclusively with faculty within the department and the division. Teaching duties will include face-to-face, online, and hybrid modalities. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning. This position should allow flexibility for day or evening work. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide instruction in one or more areas of cosmetology including barbering, esthetics, and nail technology.Develop, review, and maintain relevant curriculum for cosmetology courses in collaboration with other instructors, as well as the college’s Articulation Officer.Provide instruction in accordance with established program course outlines of record; inform/advise students about program requirements; evaluate and provide timely verbal and written assessments of student performance; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed reports and required documents; and maintain required student attendance, scholastic records, and other related materials.Provide leadership and work in collaboration with other instructors of the cosmetology department in coordinating curriculum, conducting faculty peer reviews, and mentoring adjunct faculty in these courses.Support Department and Division goals by participating in program review such as curriculum and program development, revision, implementation, and evaluation.Assist in recruiting students and promoting the Cosmetology Program through participation in college-sponsored events, student clubs, and educational and industry outreach.Participate in the development, assessment, and evaluation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Program Level Outcomes (PLOs).Actively participate in department/school meetings and maintain regular office hours in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies.Use technology in the academic environment to enhance student learning.Employ equitable teaching practices to create an inclusive environment for learning and supporting students with diverse learning needs.Participate in college-wide committee work, shared governance, and decision-making. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of rules and regulations, including health and safety requirements, issued by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.Maintain effective communication with peers, staff, students, and administrators.Teaching assignments may include evening and weekend hours, and off-campus or remote instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies.Demonstrated responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Applied Technology and Business.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Understanding and practice of addressing student equity through best-practice teaching methodologies.Use computers, multimedia, course-management software, and other interactive technologies as teaching and learning tools.Demonstrate ability to utilize multiple teaching methods/strategies needed to address the diverse learning styles/need of students including integration of interactive technologies to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving strategies.Possess a commitment to teaching and learning and provide a supportive learning environment to enhance student success and completion.Possess a willingness to take initiative in co-curricular activities, outreach and recruitment efforts, special events, and school projects.Possess a willingness to participate in shared/participatory governance of the Division and the College.Demonstrate an ability to self-evaluate and effect change for personal growth and improvement, as well as an ability to accept constructive feedback and effect change appropriately and participate in professional growth and development activities and lifelong learning.WORK ENVIROMENT: The recommended candidate(s) will work in a small office or larger room with multiple people, in a primarily sedentary nature, either sitting or standing. This role will require significant technology use, including long periods of looking at technology screens and entering information using a keyboard and/or mouse device. Interruptions are likely in large room settings and in small office settings. Frequent use of online meetings technology with webcam on, phone, and email will be required to communicate with all campus communities. The recommended candidate(s) must utilize vision (near) to write and to read printed materials and computer screens; utilize hearing for ordinary and telephonic conversation and to hear sound prompts from equipment; utilize manual and finger dexterity to type/keyboard and/or utilize mouse and otherwise operate a microcomputer and other office equipment.
