Project Manager- Minnesota Afghan Project

The Center for Victims of Torture is hiring a Project Manager for the Minnesota Afghan Project to lead the implementation of CVT’s new Afghan project in Minnesota (Raahat) in partnership with the Afghan Cultural Society (ACS). Raahat provides interdisciplinary mental health and community services both on-site at various resettlement organizations, schools, and in a CVT outpatient clinic setting, offering individual, group and community-level interventions for Afghan humanitarian parolees. This position will provide team leadership and program management; ensure the smooth operation and delivery of services for clients and beneficiaries; and foster/maintain a cohesive interdisciplinary care team as they provide rehabilitative care to Afghan survivors.

Position Details:

  • Location: Twin Cities, Minnesota
  • Reports to: Director of US Clinical Programs
  • Remote status: Hybrid (60% in-person, 40% remote) – subject to change
  • Full/part-time status: Full-time (some evening/weekend to flex pending client needs)
  • Pay starts at: $74,094/year
  • Position is open to candidates who reside in and are eligible to work in the US and will not need CVT to sponsor them on a work visa; qualified candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to Minnesota.

The Center for Victims of Torture works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We offer rehabilitation services to those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota, and we have US offices in Georgia and DC, as well as offices in Africa and the Middle East.

Responsibilities:

  • Staff Supervision and Management: Build a strong and cohesive team that promotes and values staff wellness. Hire, train, coach and develop staff members through ongoing feedback as well as formal performance management systems. Hold regular supervisory meetings with direct reports. Coordinate and facilitate team meetings. Ensure achievement of goals. Develop and maintain annual work plans. Coordinate workflow, resources and priorities.
  • Project Development: Lead the implementation of the Raahat project in collaboration with local partner ACS and survivor communities across Twin Cities. Manage community outreach activities in an effort to build and maintain relationships with relevant refugee communities. Provide representation as the project leader at various community and stakeholder meetings.
  • Project Management: Develop annual budget and manage program expenditures within budget parameters. Create and maintain positive relationship with partner organizations and other program stakeholders. Lead in report writing. In collaboration with the Research Department, oversee monitoring and evaluation outcomes. Participate in site visits or other meetings with donors. Implement medical billing for individualized psychotherapy and case management services.
  • Clinical Oversight: Provide clinical supervision, consultation and training to CVT team and partner ACS. Provide clinical services as needed to support and train team.
  • Other Duties: Participate in other department and organization-wide activities, meetings and trainings. Complete administrative responsibilities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

  • MA in clinical social work, psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy or related field
  • Licensure as an LP, LICSW, LMFT or LPCC in Minnesota. For applicants applying from states in the US outside of Minnesota, applicant must hold an active, graduate-level clinical license in another state and be willing to relocate to Minnesota.
  • 5 years of experience providing mental health services to survivors of trauma
  • Has met state training criteria to provide clinical supervision
  • Previous professional experience with immigrant populations in healthcare or social service settings
  • Demonstrated success building and maintaining relationships within the local Afghan community

Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

  • 2 or more years of experience successfully managing clinical and administrative professionals
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing new programs
  • Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto
  • Demonstrated experience developing grant proposals and participating creation of reports for funder
  • Experience providing clinical supervision and consultation
  • Demonstrated success building strong, cohesive teams
  • Demonstrated success providing remote supervision to direct reports working in a hybrid environment

Competencies (knowledge, skills and abilities)

  • Ability to work some evenings/weekends (flex-time) depending on community availability
  • Fluency in English is required
  • Knowledge of local resources, including those culturally appropriate for Afghan clients
  • Deep knowledge of Afghan culture
  • Ability to successfully manage interdisciplinary teams working with high intensity trauma
  • Ability to successfully create and manage a grant-funded program budget
  • Strong understanding of and experience developing psychosocial curriculum and delivering high quality training with professionals who possess varying levels of knowledge/experience.
  • Knowledge and use of relationship-based therapy models
  • Ability to manage direct reports effectively; including ability to develop rapport, build strong, trusting relationships and work cross-culturally. Team is interdisciplinary and works in high-intensity trauma.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with individuals across an organization
  • Ability to develop relationships and communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with colleagues and partners as well as with other stakeholders
  • Interest and ability to engage in diversity, equity and inclusion efforts within the organization
  • Excellent skills in organization, attention to detail and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Interest in or commitment to human rights
  • Ability to travel to a variety of locations in the Twin Cities metro

Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides supervision to community-based psychotherapist, Afghan peer and community educator, case manager coordinator and contractors.

Work Environment:

  • Typical office environment
  • Time spent on the computer is approximately 40%
  • Time spent in virtual meetings is approximately 20%
