TITLE:Program Specialist - MI-Small Business Development Center, West Michigan Region

SUMMARY

The Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC) West Michigan Region provides consulting, training, and research for new ventures and existing small businesses to help them launch, grow, innovate, and transition.  This position is expected to provide programmatic, administrative, and technical support for the West Michigan Region to achieve the established goals of the department. This position will provide SBDC services to businesses throughout a 13-county territory that includes Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, and Ottawa Counties.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  1. Manage client intake and triage processes used to determine appropriate services.
  2. Support Business Consultant's efforts in building client portfolios and serving those clients efficiently and effectively.
  3. Manage electronic records of client assistance in the SBDC's client relationship management system in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  4. Maintain client records in compliance with Small Business Administration (SBA) standards.
  5. Provide day-to-day administrative support for the SBDC Regional Center and provide supervision to student assistants and/or temporary staff. Develop and execute workshops and training programs for the SBDC West Michigan Region.
  6. Work in collaboration with the SBDC Marketing Department to promote the services and successes of the West Michigan Regional Team.  Create newsletters and electronic communications for stakeholders, partners, and clients.
  7. Provide outreach to diverse and underserved populations throughout the region.
  8. Establish, maintain, and strengthen relationships with SBDC stakeholders, partners, and small business support organizations.
  9. Assist leadership with managing the department budget.
  10. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of SBA loan products, other small business financing options, and available business support resources.
  11. Support statewide SBDC initiatives.
  12. Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.   
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
  • Proficiency with standard software programs including Google Drive.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Experience with social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, and X.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Strong presentation and training skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekend hours.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout 13 counties in West Michigan.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - DESIRED
  • Experience with Salesforce or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
  • Experience managing and supervising teams and/or projects.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment.  Some travel may be required. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

SALARY: Minimum starting salary of $40,000
