Summary
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan is seeking a motivated and organized individual to join our growing multidisciplinary research team. The Research Program Specialist will work with investigators and other team members to oversee the implementation of NIH funded research examining Alzheimer's and dementia care, medication prescribing, and serious mental illness among older adults. Candidate will lead team members and oversee study planning and progress. Candidate will prepare survey assessment materials, complete qualitative interviews and analysis, conduct telephone, computerized, and/or paper-pencil assessments, and maintain IRB and other regulatory approval of projects. Demonstrated research experience is required including direct experience with IRB-approved research. Experience with qualitative work is desired. Additional study tasks may be assigned as needed, including running and creating reports and contributing to posters, presentation, grant applications, etc.

Responsibilities*
Position Specific Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining oversight of project goals and research assistant staff.
  • Coordinating with the Principal Investigator (PI) and project management team to report study progress
  • Supervise research assistant staff
  • Create and maintain IRB and other regulatory applications and approvals.
  • Manage outside vendors
  • Undertake special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications*
To be considered for this position, all applicants must:
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Should be organized and possess strong attention to detail.
  • Must be motivated to learn and capable of working in a team and functioning independently
  • Have the ability to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines

To be considered for this position at the Research Area Specialist Senior Level, all applicants must also:
  • Have a bachelor's degree
  • have five or more years of previous research experience

To be considered for this position at the Research Area Specialist Intermediate level, all applicants must also:
  • Have a bachelor's degree
  • have four or more years of previous research experience

Desired Qualifications*
  • A Master's Degree in Social Work, Public Health, or a similar field is highly desirable.
  • Experience contributing to or leading scientific writing (i.e. for a peer-reviewed publication) and/or experience in qualitative research would be ideal.

Background Screening
