Purpose of the Program Instructor RoleThe primary purpose of your position is to plan, develop, direct, evaluate and coordinate the nursing assistant training programs in accordance with current federal and state guidelines and company policy.Reports to

Facility Director of Nursing

Hours

Hours will be agreed upon with the Director of Nursing and correspond to the training Curriculum.

Typical Working Conditions

May be exposed to blood, body fluids, burns, infectious diseases, air contaminants (including tobacco smoke), hazardous chemicals, and to the Hepatitis B virus, and will be responsible for following company safety policies and procedures and Health Department regulations regarding contact with any of the above

 

Essential Physical Tasks

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift up and over 40 pounds with assistance according to resident’s abilities.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to travel whether by car and/or plane as necessary to reach assigned destination in a reasonable time frame.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, push, stoop, and pull as needed especially in fulfilling patient care activities.
  • Must be able to meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, including a physical examination.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Must hold a California RN or LVN License that is active, current and in good standing.
  • Must have valid California Director of Staff Development certification
  • Current CPR certification. BLS instructor certification preferred
  •  Must meet the requirements of CCR Title 22, Section 71829

Experience

  • Must have one year of experience as a licensed nurse in providing direct nursing care in a long-term health care facility. Must have one year of experience in planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs in the field of nursing. 
  • Must have two years of full-time experience as a licensed nurse, at least one year of which must be in the provision of direct patient care in a nursing facility.
  • Has a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education courses in planning, implementing, and evaluating education programs in nursing. -
  • Experienced or trained in the care of adult, geriatric, and chronically ill residents; restorative nursing and supervision
  • Experience in training the nursing assistant program preferred.
  • Knowledge of Title 22 and OBRA regulations.

Miscellaneous

  • Responsible for maintaining nursing assistant instructor duties for the number of hours agreed upon with Director of Nursing.   

Specific Job Functions

  • Plans, develop, direct, evaluate and coordinate the educational curriculum for the nursing assistant training program for nursing care facilities/agency.
  • Serve as liaison officer between participating health care facilities and agencies.
  • Assures timely completion of student health screening (physicals, TB screening,) according to facility/agency policy and state and federal requirements.
  • Participates in the selection and/or dismissal of students for the nursing assistant program.
  • Evaluates the skills of nursing assistant’s student (within standard scope of practice) in the classroom as well as the clinical setting.
  • Provides leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the nursing assistant training program.
  • Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director of Nursing concerning the nursing assistant training program.
  • Ensures that copies of lesson plans are maintained in accordance with policies and procedures and regulation.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with all student files and health files.
  • Prepares and maintains current approval by DHS l for DSD/Instructor and the nursing assistant training program and provides copies to the Director of Nursing
  • Ensures all Nursing Assistants hired by the facility complete a certification program within four months of date of hire.
  • Ensures that disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap or marital status.
  • Directs the preparation, scheduling and selection of instructional material, equipment and training aids, to ensure that a modern, meaningful training program is provided.
  • Ensures that all nursing assistants trainees are under their direct supervision.
  • Supports the general recruitment, retention and recognition functions of the clinical site and local company sites.
  • Develops work assignments and schedule duty hours for nurse assistant trainees
  • Ensures that nurse assistant trainees are performing only tasks for which they have been trained
  • Monitors absenteeism to ensure that the nurse assistant trainee attends scheduled classes and makes up classes missed
  • Reviews complaints and grievances made or filed relative to the nursing assistant training program
  • Provides students with evaluation forms for the program and shares copies with the clinical site and the program Director
