- Contribute to and continuously improve strategy in product safety, regulatory and Product Stewardship within Mativ consumer, outsourcing and commercialization processes to meet legal, marketplace and customer requirements for product-specific use.
- Product stewardship responsibilities include individual raw material, manufacturing process and finished product master design parameters. Works closely with Mativ SAS R&D in the product development process, product safety administrator/control point, serves as the lead for product review process for all raw material approvals while providing proactive communications to changes in regulations and hazard standards.
- Develop and manage product regulatory due diligence information database to allow for rapid retrieval of information, and where applicable, provide the information as appropriate to internal and external customers.
- Evaluate, appropriately process and respond to incoming internal requests for technical, chemical compliance, product safety support assistance or external customer inquiries. Identify, and escalate as appropriate, potential problems or issues, technical or chemical compliance issues or material changes that may impact Mativ SAS products and global business.
- Provides product safety support for the technical evaluation and the safety hazard assessment of ingredients and raw materials. Collaboratively identifies and solves technical, chemical-of-concern, and/or regulatory toxicology compliance problems that may impact Mativ SAS products, brand or reputation globally.
- Manage and facilitate the use of third-party evaluations and certifications, interpret results, and identify areas of potential concern. Upon consultation with business leaders, support and carry out tactical risk mitigation plan.
- Manage the internal/external SDS generation and revision process for Mativ finished and in-process products.
- Engage Mativ SAS suppliers and/or test laboratories in order to obtain full material disclosures certifications, compliance to Mativ standards, other required information and/or additional test data for safety evaluation, regulatory registration or notification programs such as European or Korean REACH, EU RoHS, US TSCA, State DOT requirements, China New Chemical Substances regulation, etc. The incumbent is responsible for managing key contact relationships with strategic material suppliers such that Mativ is viewed as a valued partner.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Pharmacology, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or a related scientific or technical field of study with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience directly managing product regulatory and stewardship issues in the industrial manufacturing sector.
- Must be highly effective at promptly and accurately assessing customer requests on product safety and responding effectively to product compliance / suitability information against hard deadlines.
- Must have deep and extensive knowledge of global product regulatory requirements (e.g., REACH, RoHS, TSCA, Prop 65, GHS, etc.).
- Must have experience in data collection and management for effective response to Product Stewardship inquiries from internal and external customers, using appropriate digital platforms.
- Experience managing and responding to Restricted Substance Standards (RSSs) and Restricted Substance Lists (RSLs) preferred.
- Demonstrable experience ensuring compliance with eco-labeling requirements (e.g., FSC, USDA Biobased, Oeko-Tex® for textiles, Greenguard® for building materials, etc.) and self-declared environmental claims (e.g., biodegradable, compostable, recyclable, recycled content, etc.) and ability to substantiate and verify through third-party testing / evaluation.
- Knowledge of chemical safety regulations globally and the Global Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) standards as pertained to Mativ.
- Strong organizational skills and experience in organizing chemical safety and regulatory data, research/product safety testing report information and the entering of these data into electronic databases and presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and independently manage multiple tasks in a cross-functional corporate setting and the ability to effectively communicate in written or oral presentation formats.
- CPPS certification a plus
