Payroll Manager
ComServe is a leading authorized Verizon retailer with 53 retail locations in 8 states. We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist, with preferred knowledge of ADP Workforce Now. Multi-state experience is preferred.
Salary: $70,000 per year or commensurate to experience
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Thorough knowledge/understanding of payroll/time-keeping systems.
- Knowledge of applicable multi-state payroll-related and federal wage and hour laws.
- Strong understanding of multi-state FSLA laws.
- Accounting knowledge in order to perform monthly payroll account reconciliations.
- Maintains payroll information by designing systems; directing the collection, calculation, entering of data and resolving payroll errors.
- Builds payroll systems and processes from ground up wherever needed.
- Updates payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, benefit deductions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department/ division transfers.
- Directs the payment of employees by overseeing the production and issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts by ensuring timely, accurate payroll batch processes.
- Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
- Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.
- Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.
- Supervises the accurate, timely processing of reimbursable expenses through payroll process.
- Ensures promotions, transfers, salary adjustments and terminations are timely and accurately reflected in payroll system.
- Ensures timely preparation and submission of state and federal tax forms W-2.
- Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.
- Oversee and manage benefits for employees
- Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains payroll staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, supervising and training employees on best practices.
- Maintains professional and technical best practice knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Qualifications:
- Strong competency with functionalities of managing processes, people management, data entry management, reporting skills, compensation and wage structure, benefits administration, worker compensation, employment law, developing standards, financial skills, accounting.
- Strong competency in payroll benefits administration, and in FLSA.
- Strong competency in multi-state, workers compensation monopolistic state payroll reporting, and US territory state and local tax filings.
- Working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now, ADP Smart Compliance.
- Excellent computer skills (MS Office, primarily Excel).
- Strong management and decision-making skills.
- Must be detail and figure oriented.
- Must be able to prioritize tasks and to delegate when appropriate.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands. Requires strong organizational skills.
- Must be able to engage in effective and persuasive discussions on complex topics with top management and other firm personnel. Must be able to make presentations to company personnel.
- Excellent time-management, problem-prevention and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- High level of critical thinking skills.
- 3 or more years of advanced payroll experience across multiple states
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) degree preferred.

Schedule: 8-hour shift Monday – Friday

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or related area
