Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for experienced Operations Technicians at its new production facility, Geismar 3 SMR in Geismar, LA.
The Operations Technician is part of a team and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a highly automated steam methane reformer and cold box facility. The Operations Technician is responsible for operating, controlling, and monitoring the process of the SMR to produce hydrogen, steam, and carbon monoxide for our customers. The Operations Technician will also work alongside and assist our maintenance and engineering teams in the superior upkeep of the facility's equipment. Additional duties include issuing safe work permits, taking field readings, manipulating manual valves, working with, and handling of boiler feed water chemicals, operating a forklift, performing equipment inspections, and various other tasks required to accomplish the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the facility.
Required Skills / Abilities:
- Active participation in the Basic Safety Process as a key member of the Site Safety Committee.
- Controlling and monitoring the continuous manufacturing processes to produce hydrogen (H2), steam in the SMR and carbon monoxide in the cryogenic cold box.
- Work with compressors, pumps, and other pieces of rotating equipment.
- Assist in plant equipment mechanical repairs, instrument calibrations and electrical troubleshooting.
- Provide direct interface with the pipeline customers.
- Taking and recording boiler chemistry water samples.
- Preforming equipment inspections.
- Forklift operations.
- Minor maintenance.
- Prepare and submit documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures, internal/external audits, management of change documents.
- Follow Lockout / Tag Out Procedures.
- Follow SWIM / JSA procedures.
- Issue Safe Work Permits for all jobs being completed in the plant.
- Professional skills improvement & development in process and safety management (Progression Guide).
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Must have a minimum of 2 years plant process experience and/or Process Technology degree/Certification.
- Commitment to safety
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Strong computer skills
- Able to climb ladders and steps and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Will be exposed to high noise levels.
- Be able to meet call-in requirements as needed.
- Elevated work required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and/or military background.
- Team player that is flexible.
- Must be a self-starter and willing to work alone.
- Able to work overtime as needed.
- Able to take 24 hours on call responsibilities on a rotating basis.
- Support for regional facilities may be required during plant upsets or planned and unplanned maintenance events.
