Position is part-time (24-32 hours per week) with flexible scheduling, some weekends as needed.
General Description
The Intern will be responsible for assisting the Conservation District staff, NRCS staff and other cooperating agencies in accomplishing their projects. Duties can range from general labor and record keeping assistance to site specific field work and project management.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Associated Field of Study with background knowledge (engineering, environmental science, geology, biology, agriculture, or soils science).
- Must have basic knowledge of computer operations and basic software packages including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and desktop publishing.
- Possess effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for a wide range of individuals and groups.
- Ability to interpret and comprehend topographic maps.
- Must be physically able to perform required field work including traversing difficult terrain; should be able to lift at least 30 pounds.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
Specific Responsibilities
Assistance to the District staff may include, but not limited to, the following duties:
- Answer phone calls and provide assistance to public, consultants, cooperators, officials, etc.
- Assist with the coordination and maintenance of records for various district programs
- Assist with water sampling and Watershed Projects
- Assist Agricultural Technician in outreach efforts and organization
- Assist with environmental education programs
- Assist with erosion and sedimentation control plan review and inspections
- Assist with topographic surveys and field conservation best management practice designs
- Prepare and file reports as requested
- Become familiar with the functions, rules and regulations, duties of employees and policies and procedures of the Conservation District
- Maintain a daily activities log
- Submit written monthly reports of daily activity to the Conservation District Manager
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Conservation District staff
- Attend meetings as needed
Supervision and Guidance
- The Intern receives supervision and guidance from the Conservation District Manager and technical staff.
Scope and Responsibilities
- Actively participates and assists in the implementation of the Conservation District's programs and projects.
Unpaid interns do not receive benefits or compensation of any kind.
