We are seeking a Systems Administrator with experience in building and administering large, mixed operating system, computing environments on premises, and ideally, in AWS and Azure. Our team is responsible for supporting biomedical research in the VA utilizing a secure high-performance computing environment. The prospective candidate will be a member of a highly motivated team, experienced in administering Linux and Windows environments with hundreds of machines, both on prem and in the Government Cloud. The candidate will be securing, maintaining and administering infrastructure, applications and tools for researchers.
Your primary job functions are as following but not limited to:
- Address user tickets regarding hardware, software, and networking
- Help create technical documentation and manuals
- Test alternative pathways until you resolve an issue
- Lead or contribute to the architecture and design of new systems and tools.
- Improve and enhance existing systems and tools.
- Monitor and report on the performance and security of our cloud environments.
- Troubleshoot issues and support the operation of production software and tools.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering
- 8+ years of experience in Systems analysis, design, development, testing and support, with strong analytical and debugging skills.
- U.S. Citizenship
- Experience working in a scientific research environment is desired, and familiarity with big data processing is a plus.
- Professional experience supporting apps or services, scaling to an enterprise level.
- Professional experience in networking, security, storage, monitoring, and systems support are all desired. The successful candidate will have a wide range of experience.
- Knowledge of the software build process and database support is desired. Production release support of internal development projects is part of the job.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, environment documentation, and source control is desired.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
- Self-motivated: setting and achieving goals with little supervision.
- Dependable: following through tasks assigned with consistency.
- Team-oriented: easy to collaborate with and willing to help others.
