For this role, we are looking for a Network Infrastructure Design Engineer with demonstrated experience in developing and delivering network connectivity solutions at scale in a data center or globally distributed Point of Presences.Are you ready to shape the future of Meta's global network reach? As a member of the ENS Foundation Design team, you will support capacity driven expansion of Meta’s global Edge/Backbone network and compute presence. You will work closely with cross-functional design, planning, and deployment teams to develop space, power, cooling, and connectivity infrastructure design requirements and drive execution of these needs within Meta’s global colocation spaces including POPs, CLS, and ILA facilities. - Executes global space and power planning and design function in POP/CLS/ILAs
- Engages in system level facility sizing of utilities, switchgear, UPS/DC power plant, PDUs, mechanical cooling, and LV power distribution
- Manages global space, power, cabling, and other inside plant infrastructure requirements in support of edge network requirements, present, and future
- Proactively engages with various data center colocation providers in evaluating their facilities and recommends corrective actions to meet Meta standard design requirements
- Provides a multi-year proactive plan (2 to 5 year) on space, power, cooling, cabling and other infrastructure requirements to support Meta’s forecasted demand
- Presents optimized layout of edge site floor plans, allocate space assigned to network function, optical, backbone, IP, compute, etc.
- Delivers on time Engineering Design Packages related site infrastructure scope for sourcing and capacity planning teams
- Builds capacity reporting to analyze long-term trends and industry direction, and uses this information to forecast and budget for future growth. Monitors capacity thresholds and initiates proactive builds to expand inventory in alignment with edge and backbone deployment forecasts
- Provides input and collaborates with cross-functional teams on space/power requirements, deployment projects, and other major initiatives that support capacity delivery
- Demonstrates proactive communication and a customer-focused mindset in all interactions
- Applies lessons learned from projects to support continuous improvement initiatives
- Manages key vendor relationships including contract negotiations, pricing, and evaluation of current and potential partnerships
- 20% of travel required
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Must have a minimum BS/BE Electrical Engineering degree
- 7+ years of experience working in data center planning and design role
- Expert hands on experience in reading/analyzing electrical/mechanical single line diagrams
- Thorough knowledge of various regional data center electrical and cooling configurations, IEC, NEMA standards, AC/DC power, power redundancy scenarios
- Thorough knowledge of engineering principles of the infrastructure architecture (space line up, air flow, cooling etc.)
- Working knowledge of data center, collocations and remote hut environments, to include engineering principles regarding power and other infrastructure
- Experience with optical network design, installation, and maintenance for service providers or enterprise networks
- Experience with field-based work in POPs, carrier hotels, data centers, and central office environments
- Hands-on experience with power system equipment including DC power plant, UPS, PDUs, and MV system
- Experience with communication and directing tasks with carriers remotely
- Project management and organizational experience
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and collaborate with global cross-functional teams to develop and execute plans that meet evolving business needs. Proven scoping, prioritization, multitasking, and communication skills required
- Proven experience analyzing situations, troubleshoot issues, and solve problems with limited supervision
- Working knowledge of Revit/AutoCAD/Bluebeam/BIM360
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience working in data center planning and design role
- Advanced Engineering degree
- Mechanical and Electrical focused PE/CE Engineers are highly preferred
- Working knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies, and the operation of optical transport systems
