Job Summary
Provide technical expertise, oversight and supervision to a variety of nondestructive testing industries. These industries include structural steel, manufacturing, machining, power generation, and petro-chemical. The services provided by the NDT Department are performed to the standards of industry including AWS, ASME, ASTM, API, AISC, and UBC as well as state laws governing professional services. All services will be performed in accordance with AST’s QA/QC procedures. The NDT Manager will have an important role in developing the expertise and efficiency of the NDT department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Perform MT, PT, UT, RT, and VT examinations. Interpret results and prepare reports documenting results.
- Maintain training and certification in MT, PT, UT, RT, and VT inspection techniques.
- Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining QA procedures in the NDT department.
- Maintain current procedures and equipment calibrations for the NDT department.
- Prepare proposals, including development work plans, assigning unit rates, estimating units required and estimating project costs.
- Hire and train personnel in performing test procedures for field and laboratory NDT services.
- Maintain client contact for ongoing projects and interface with the NDT manager to prepare proposals, schedule laboratory and field testing activities.
- Perform work as a project manager, independent of supervision; assist coordination of full-time and intermittent field projects by AET personnel, including reporting and invoicing.
- Develop, review, update and maintain QA/QC program for NDT services. Act as Assistant Industrial Radiation Safety Officer for the office.
- Make recommendations for capital expenditures to upper management.
- Prepare annual business plan, including sales and margin objectives, personnel projections, and capital expenditure outlay for management review and approval.
- Provide oversight for radiographers and radiographer assistants for compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Directly supervise all NDT personnel at assigned location. Provide supervision including: mentoring and training of junior technical staff members as needed to maintain project quality/service. Communicate with clients to determine project needs. Assign/schedule projects as needed. Review subordinate reports, prepare and perform staff performance reviews.
- Assist in the promotion and marketing of AET and the NDT department.
- Conduct field, laboratory and office activities in a manner consistent with federal, state, and local regulations, along with AET’s QA and Health and Safety Policies, to promote the safety and protection of employees, clients and the public.
- Communication skills sufficient to convey complex technical information in a clear manner to diverse audiences.
- Ability to interact successfully with a wide variety of people, work effectively within project teams, resolve issues and problems in a constructive manner, and work independently in the field.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two year degree in nondestructive testing.
- Minimum of five years of progressive NDT experience, including a minimum of 5 years of experience with welding inspection and 5 years of management or supervisory experience.
- Five years’ experience in gamma radiography as it meets the requirements of 10 CFR Part 34.43 (g) for radiographers and radiographer assistants.
