Taylor County is currently seeking qualified applicants for Misdemeanor Deputy Clerk Iin the Taylor County Clerks Office.
Job Summary: The Misdemeanor Deputy Clerk I position is a clerical position in the County Clerk’s office, in the Misdemeanor Courts Division. As a member of a team, the position is responsible for various responsibilities and duties in support of the Judiciary. Primary duties also include customer service at the front counter and by telephone; taking payments and answering questions. Predominately this person will work with taking misdemeanor court cost and criminal fine payments. Collect delinquent fines and court cost, scanning, filing, contacting persons who are delinquent, and entering data into the County’s case management system. Duties also include support of the Deputy Clerk II position’s responsibilities as necessary. In addition to support for the other misdemeanor clerks, the person in this position must help all the other clerks in the office as needed or assigned; such as assumed name certificates, marriage license, and birth certificates. The deputy must be able to communicate effectively with the employees in the department, other county officials and citizens/customers who come in contact with the office and require our services. The Deputy Clerk I- Misdemeanor operates under the direction of the Chief Deputy and County Clerk.
All applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Qualified applicants will have experience of 1 year or more in general office work and clerical skills demonstrating communication, precision with names and numbers and customer service. Must have legible handwriting. Previous experience in the legal profession, the court system and legal documents will be a plus.
Essential Functions:
Greets and direct public at your counter and answer the phones
Gives assistance to customers with all divisions within the office; either waiting on customers at the counter, by telephone or with the public search terminals
Takes criminal payments at the counter and through certified payments
Files and disposes of all cases
Prepares various documents to include dismissals, warrants, surety checks, cash bond releases, appeals to appellate courts, CJIS data and reports, probation revocation, court cost dockets, jail court costs, DWI school, motion for new trial, non-disclosure and expunctions
Set up A, B, C fees
Events, Scans, work within E-File Texas and County case management systems.
Verifies scanned images to original documents for accuracy and image quality
Corrects documents previously scanned and checks other information for accuracy
Performs duties of Deputy Clerk I in the courtroom as necessary
Responds to written and telephonic correspondence relating to misdemeanor issues
Redacts documents for personal information according to statute and departmental policy
Communicates with hardware and software vendors to trouble-shoot problems
Process electronic filings in E-fil system
Prepares certified copies of Misdemeanor Records
Starting Salary: $38, 260.00 annually + benefits
