Job Summary
GENERAL PURPOSE: Under close supervision, performs routine legal clerical work in the support of the operations of the Municipal Court; provides information within scope of authority.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Assists customers and callers regarding court procedures, payments, citations, and warrants; responds to requests for information within scope of authority.
- Collects and posts fines, fees and bonds, including payment plans and community service, and accurately balances and reconciles daily cash transactions using court management computer software; reviews and verifies accounting records.
- Inputs a variety of court transactions into court management software, including the filing of cases.
- Prepares case files and maintains and monitors court records and citations filed in court cases.
- Retrieves, maintains, and processes warrant information.
- Prepares and processes complaints, summons, writs, warrants, and other court orders as assigned.
- Processes all necessary paperwork for court proceedings.
- Processes bond forfeitures, including affidavits of surrender, judgment nisi, civil citations, and scire facias dockets.
- Assists Judge with court proceedings as assigned.
- Receives, verifies and enters data into the computer tracking systems.
- Maintains the absolute confidentiality of all records and information.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED, AND two (2) years customer service and clerical experience, preferably in a municipal court; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Must test for Municipal Court Clerk Certification Level 1 within 12 months from date of hire and obtain certification within 24 months from date of hire; must maintain certification during employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Requirements
Required Knowledge of:
- Government operations, functions and scope of authority of the municipal court.
- Methods for delivering excellent customer service.
- City policies and procedures.
- Principles of basic cash management, record keeping and records management.
Required Skill in:
- Maintaining complex official records accurately in an environment with frequent interruptions.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing specialized software, and entering information into a computer system with speed and accuracy.
- Professional public relations and customer service.
- Effective communication, both verbal and written including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse and sometimes irate individuals and to handle calmly and efficiently situations ranging from routine to emergency.
- Balancing good judgment and the concern for individuals' feelings with the necessity to adhere to the law and communicate clearly and firmly the necessary information.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a standard office environment and is subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to safely lift and carry equipment and materials up to thirty (30) pounds.
- May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
