Position: Pharmacy Technician III
Department: Inpatient Pharmacy
Schedule: Per diem, M-S morning and evening rotating.
- Accurately transcribes and enters electronic prescriptions into the pharmacy management software.
- Completes patient and provider requests from the voicemail queue as appropriate.
- Completes scheduled refills of patient’s medications as required.
- Confirms patients’ demographic information as necessary for mail order prescriptions.
- Resolves prescription refill errors in the pharmacy management software as appropriate.
- Transfers prescriptions as requested by patients or other pharmacies.
- Resolves third party insurance claim issues.
- Forwards issues to a pharmacist on duty as appropriate.
- Conducts medication compliance calls to patients.
- Contacts providers as needed for patient refills, prior authorizations, etc.
- Adheres to all HIPAA requirements while contacting patients, providers, and other pharmacy staff members.
- Adheres to all policies related to AIDET in providing service to patients, providers, and other pharmacy staff members.
- Answers inbound call from patients, providers, and other pharmacy staff members.
- Triages calls as necessary, working to resolve any outstanding prescription issues for those calling the pharmacy.
- Escalates calls to pharmacists, management, and other pharmacy staff members as necessary.
- Applies excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills to all interactions.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
- Massachusetts Registered Pharmacy Technician required.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required with ExCPT or PTCB.
- Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience in a pharmacy setting.
- Work requires effective interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with hospital staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, colleagues, and others.
- Ability to speak the English language, read, interpret, and follow complicated verbal and written instruction with precision, accuracy and dependability.
- Additional language skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served is very helpful.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize essential tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong math skills required; ability to perform work accurately and pay attention to details, including being able to perform general mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios & proportions).
- Basic computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information. Knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel.
- Comprehension of pharmacy law and Board regulations
- Must maintain the required level of competency to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
