Medical Check-In Receptionist
Position Summary
The Check-In Receptionist is responsible for welcoming patients, visitors, representatives and other customers by greeting and directing them in a friendly, prompt and helpful manner. The Check-In receptionist will ensure the completion of paperwork. During the check-in process the accounts are registered with the patient’s demographics. The collection of patient copays, deductibles, co-insurances, non-covered insured items and balances may also be taken as patients are checking in. The total deposits are reconciled at the end of each day.
General Job Duties
· Answers the telephone in a warm, friendly manner.
· Directs urgent calls to the appropriate person and ensures that action is taken.
· Check-in patients and complete the patient tracking process in the EMR system.
· Schedule patient appointments within operational standards and documents appropriately.
· Collect outstanding balances, co-insurances, deductibles, co-pays and self-pay balances that are owed at the time of the appointment.
· Accurately post payments and provide summary receipts to patients.
· Reconcile individual daily receipts and money collected with end of day reports to confirm collection balances and complete end of the day report.
· Export clinical summaries per the Meaningful Use guidelines established by the practice protocols.
· Process mail.
· Follow the release of information protocol that follows the HIPAA guidelines to release medical records.
· Create patient charts within the EMR system.
· Scan documents.
· Complete all task within the timelines established by the practice.
· Maintain accuracy of patient demographic and insurance information by verifying this information at each patient’s encounter.
· Keep Check-In Desk and Receptionist area clean and neat.
· Distribute delivery boxes to appropriate staff.
· Report broken equipment or unsafe building areas immediately to the Office Manager.
· Obtains accurate and complete information for hospital consults and forwards to the appropriate Office Manager/Medical Assistant/Physician according to practice protocols.
· Maintains patient confidentiality.
· Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
· High School education or GED equivalent.
· Office experience is plus.
· Working knowledge of contracted insurance plans.
· Good verbal and written communication skills.
· Good telephone skills.
· GREAT attendance.
· Demonstrated ability to use a computer with Microsoft Word software.
· Excellent customer service skills.
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and thorough knowledge of HIPAA policies and procedures.
·Self-motivated with little supervision; NO LAZINESS.
