Medical Billing Specialist

Retina Consultants, Ltd. is a medical and surgical retina practice serving the greater Chicagoland area with offices in Des Plaines, Libertyville, Elgin, Lisle, Hickory Hills and Wilmette. Our team specializes in adult retinal disease and pediatric retinal disease and has been providing unmatched care to the Chicago area for over 35 years.

We are looking for a Medical Billing Specialist to add to our team in Des Plaines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reports directly to Billing Supervisor and completes daily assigned tasks
• Prepares and submits electronic and paper claims to various insurance companies
• Responds to in-person, telephone, and written inquiries from office staff, physicians, insurance companies, and patients regarding accounts and insurance coverage
• Works closely with physicians and medical records department to ensure proper medical documentation and coding
• Collects, posts, and manages account payments
• Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints
• Evaluates patient's financial status and establishes budget payment plans; tracks and reports status of delinquent accounts
• Performs various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers
• Processes payments from insurance companies and prepares a daily deposit.
• Maintains strict patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge or Medical Billing/claim submission procedures
• Knowledge of electronic medical records system (eClinical Works preferred)
• Knowledge of basic CPT and ICD-10 coding
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team player
• Professional appearance and demeanor
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to multitask and use critical thinking to complete tasks
