Job Description

Reports to: Clinical Director

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree in Medical Billing and Coding, or Medical Biller Certification from an accredited program
• Must have prior experience in behavioral healthcare billing
• 2 years experience as a medical biller preferred
• Must be independent, warm, compassionate, respectful, and seek to contribute to a collaborative and integrated team-based setting
• Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding and medical terminology likely to be encountered in medical claims
• Possess excellent customer service skills to sensitively and calmly interact with clients, referral sources and insurers around sensitive health matters, medical claims and payments and communicating with cultural competency with people from diverse backgrounds and ages
• Knowledge of insurance benefits and use of electronic health record
• Superior verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with details and organizational skills
• Must be able to maintain patient confidentiality as per the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996)
• Ability to adjust to shifting priorities and balance competing demands
• Able to multitask and meet tight deadlines
• Excellent problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals, and collections.
• Competency in Microsoft Office Excel and EMR software

Hours:

The Medical Billing Specialist is a part time, remote position with scheduled workdays and times to be mutually agreed upon. Minimum of 3 business days required with flexibility around those days.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Account payable/receivable including claims reimbursement and payment processing
• Provide customer service to clients through clear communication regarding client account balance and work towards collection on accounts.
• Create and disseminate “Good Faith Estimates” per federal regulations
• Medical insurance verification for clients to include eligibility and benefits checks for outpatient psychotherapy
• Preparing, reviewing, and transmitting claims using billing software utilizing medical coding with knowledge with ICD-10 CPT codes
• Post charges within completed EOB’s/ERA’s in a timely fashion
• Generate client account statements and superbills
• Troubleshooting, escalating, and appealing of claim denials to ensure maximum reimbursement for services provided
• Calling insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary and following up on unpaid claims
• Review of insurance aging reports and submitting collection reports
• Abide by all laws, rules, regulations, and codes of ethics that are binding upon or applicable to the services performed for LifePath
• Stay current with medical coding guidelines and industry updates
• Collaborate with clinicians regarding billing questions and necessary coding revisions
• Other duties which may be assigned by LifePath

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
