BR&T is looking for a Manufacturing Research and Development Engineer to support the Boeing Defense Systems programs in the Puget Sound area with focus on the KC-46A Pegasus modification and finishing center in Everett, WA or Tukwila, WA.
Current projects include the development of ergonomic production aids, fastening/drilling/assembly technology build integration, and multiple large-scale industrial framing improvements. The tasks performed by our engineers involve problem solving, mechanical and electrical design, assembling and testing prototype hardware/systems. Additional projects utilize 3D printing and traditional machining to quickly design/build prototype shop aides and tools.
Position Responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day factory operations with design and fabrication of unique, one-off tooling and hardware solutions
- Support coordination efforts to replicate solutions and further enable safe and high-quality builds
- Perform mechanical design and analysis using tools such as CATIA, SolidWorks, NX, etc.
- Utilize supporting Seattle laboratories to fabricate prototype equipment and processes
- Fabricate technical solutions using additive manufacturing and basic machine shop equipment, while using Design for Manufacture principles to coordinate more complex fabrication efforts
- Conduct Research and implementation of the latest technologies in the production of commercial derivative airplanes
- Work closely with factory mechanics and various engineering functions such as manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and industrial engineering to improve general assembly methods and processes
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with mechanical design using CATIA or Solidworks and do FEA analysis
- Experience with 3D printing; design and fabricate of shop aids, tools and prototypes
- Experience with machining tools and equipment
- Familiarity with aircraft structures and assembly methods, or experience in a similar production environment (automotive, fabrication, petroleum etc)
Typical Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree and typically 2 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
