Department Overview
Gas Operations oversees the natural gas transmission and distribution operations. The team maintains and operates 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipeline, 43,000 miles of distribution main, 3.6 million gas services, three PG&E-owned storage facilities with 102 BCF capacity, nine compressor stations with 175K HP, and 5,000 measurement and control facilities. Gas Operations is comprised of approximately 6,000 coworkers.
Position Summary
The Gas Qualification leadership team manages the technical requalification of all gas employees through a team of specialists. Technical requalification includes plastic fusion, weld qualifications, oversight of the Operator Qualifications (OQ) program, leaks, and measurement control with an emphasis on valves, regulation and corrosion. The leadership team works closely with the Gas Operations lines of business to ensure a high-quality evaluation/qualification program is provided and that it is properly administered. Responsibilities also include monitoring, reporting and trending of qualification results and continuously seeking improvement opportunities. The leadership team ensures that safety is a priority and that all meet all safety requirements. They contribute toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $132,000
Bay Area Maximum: $226,000
&/OR
California Minimum: $125,000
California Maximum: $215,000
Job Responsibilities
Gas Qualification Program:

  • Manages and leads a team of supervisors and specialists who ensure the technical requalification of gas employees in various craft disciplines, providing a strategic view of improvement opportunities.
  • Prepares and communicates the annual plan for Gas Qualifications programs
  • Develops and reviews or approves Qualifications and OQ program and processes, work with business partners to ensure consensus
  • Works in partnership with communication department and training programs that support qualifications and OQ program improvement
  • Ensures that all qualifications and test are administered on time and support the LOB needs to keep the workforce in compliance.
  • Interfaces with other PG&E organizations, including Methods & Procedures, Safety and Health, UPI and others.
  • Creates strategic plan to integrate all procedural adherence teams that support field operations within PG&E.
  • Supports stakeholder organizations with leadership meetings where necessary.
  • Ensures staff is qualified, promote certification of employees and ensure staff continues to keep their skills and training up-to-date.
  • Leads continuous Improvement projects that raise the level of workforce quality from compliance to comprehension based
  • Provides technical support to the Communications department for roll outs
  • May manage contractor agreements, assignments and costs
  • May lead cross functional teams for special projects

Tracking and Communicating Investigation Results and Action Plans:
  • Ensures all trends and findings from qualifications efforts are communicated, tracked and develop effective reporting
  • Manages and facilitates Procedural Quality Improvement committee with QA, QC, UPI and PG&E Academy
  • Provides regular trend analysis for weak areas of field execution of work and facilitate improvement efforts.
  • Supports internal clients by evaluating and reviewing existing processes to ensure that sound business practices are in place and are being followed.

Qualifications
Minimum:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 8 years of relevant experience, including 5 years in utility operations, construction, and/or engineering.
  • 2 years of supervisory or lead experience
  • 20% travel required
