POSITION SUMMARY
Manage and coordinate activities of Maintenance and Engineering associates and contractors engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment, and in maintenance of buildings, grounds, or other establishments by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. The position will drive for continuous improvement of Safety, Quality, Reliability of Equipment, and Costs.
POSITION DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Create a culture of safety, quality, and teamwork.
- Plan, develop, and implement new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of equipment, labor, and materials.
- Oversee and coordinate building space allocation, layout, communication services, HVAC systems, computer network wiring, lighting, and other factors.
- Confer with management, other site associates, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems, inspect facilities and equipment to determine need and extent of service, equipment required, and type and number of operation and maintenance personnel needed and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
- Manage, recommend, and oversee capital investments.
- Plan, budget, and schedule facilities modifications including cost estimates, bid sheets, layouts, and contracts for construction and acquisitions, working with outside vendors and contractors. Inspect construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established specifications. Manage and coordinate safety guidelines for contractors.
- Responsible for compliance with OSHA, state environmental, company and departmental policies.
- Schedule repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations.
- Prepare department budgets for Maintenance, Facilities and Spare Parts and monitor expenditure of funds in budget.
- Direct maintenance activities, set department priorities, schedule, and coordinate available resources on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations.
- Develop, implement, and train on Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and subsequent maintenance.
- Manage and implement preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
- Direct training and continuously improve associates’ skills to improve work performance and familiarize associates with company policies and procedures.
- When appropriate, assist in the process of enrolling and overseeing departmental associates enrolled in the apprenticeship programs and satisfactorily meeting the established requirements.
- Review production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities.
- Purchase building and maintenance supplies, machinery, equipment, and furniture.
- Coordinate janitorial, snow removal and grounds maintenance.
- Conduct monthly department safety meetings on required / regulatory topics.
- Keep up to date in required safety training.
- Responsible for writing departmental SOPs and assuring associates are trained and adhering to them.
- Responsible for ~$2M/year capital spending and projects, ~$500k/year payroll and wages, ~$1.5M/yr spending of parts/services.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred with related experience; or 2-year degree with a minimum of 5 years related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.

- Broad understanding of knowledge required in Millwright, Electrician and Tool & Die trades.
- Preferred experience supervising and managing work in a unionized production workforce.
- Computer software proficiency in the following software:
- Preventive Maintenance Systems
- ERP Software
- Microsoft Suite
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises associates on the team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Combination of an office and manufacturing environment.
Duties may require off-shifts and weekend coverage as needed.
Travel requirements are infrequent.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility. While performing the duties of this job it is regularly required to talk and hear. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
