Hiring Salary: $39,141.00 -
Workdays/Hours: Monday - Friday / 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Devoted to maintaining and repairing City property, vehicles, roads and traffic systems, equipment and facilities, providing custodial services, and collecting, transporting and disposing municipal solid and yard waste through the performance of semi-skilled and skilled labor and technical work. Perform standardized work following prescribed procedures and instructions, requiring minimal prior training or experience. There is an established and specified routine to be followed and limited decision-making, restricted to choosing and safely using the proper work tools.
Responsible for cleaning facilities and/or equipment; performing basic maintenance of equipment, grounds, and facilities; performing manual labor; assisting with projects that require semi-skilled labor; providing customer service; and keeping records and reporting maintenance needs to higher authority that fall outside of the scope of the work assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Performs janitorial, housekeeping, and custodial duties, as assigned; cleans and maintains floors and other indoor and outdoor areas; empties trash, dusts, sanitizes bathrooms, cleans mirrors and windows, replenishes sanitation items, pressure washes assigned areas; mows and trims grass and weeds; sets up and tears down equipment for special events; and opens and closes facilities, as assigned.
- Performs basic maintenance of equipment including inspecting equipment; resolves basic equipment issues, including performing minor fixture and other repairs, basic installations, and basic plumbing, painting, and carpentry duties; reports more complex repair issues to higher-level staff; and operates small equipment and tools.
- Performs manual and semi-skilled labor; assists with painting, repairing, and replacing floors, and with mixing and pouring concrete; transports, unloads, and carries materials.
- Provides customer service by responding to customer questions and concerns and providing information on established policies and procedures.
- Maintains records; performs data entry; generates work orders; performs inventory check; recommends supply orders; and picks up or delivers supplies.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
- One year of maintenance or customer service experience related to assignment.
- A valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.

Additional Preferred Skills
- Work at least six projects outside of normal working hours (evenings/weekends) every year as needed.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for 20 yards.
- Ability to work in inclement weather.
