Job Summary:
We're looking for a Litigation Paralegal or Legal Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be familiar with employment law or commercial litigation, a good writer, and technologically proficient with applications including Adobe, e-filing, ECF, and Microsoft Office. At least 3 years experience in commercial or employment litigation. Litigation experience is required, and employment litigation experience is a plus. Responsibilities will include writing discovery requests and responses, reviewing and analyzing documents, preparing and e-filing court documents, drafting correspondence including demand letters and deficiency letters, preparation of motions and first drafts of briefs, and assistance in preparing deposition outlines. Required skills include communication with clients, courts, and fellow team members; ability to anticipate and meet deadlines; efficiency and self-management; attention to detail; self-starter, team player; basic understanding of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (and familiarity with Texas Rules a plus). Typically, a 40-hour work week, but occasional nights and weekends are necessary when deadlines, trials, or depositions are required.
Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in preparing legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and briefs
- Conduct legal research using various resources including Lexis-Nexis
- Organize and maintain case files and documents using document management systems
- Interview clients and witnesses to gather relevant information for cases
- Assist with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and witness lists
- Draft correspondence and other legal documents under attorney supervision
- Coordinate with court personnel, opposing counsel, and clients to schedule hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings
- Perform data entry tasks to update case information in the firm's case management system
- File documents with the court electronically or in person
Experience:
- Proven experience working as a Litigation Paralegal or similar role
- Proficiency in using legal research tools such as Lexis-Nexis and
- Strong knowledge of document management systems and their functionalities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective client communication
- Ability to conduct interviews with clients and witnesses to gather relevant information
- Familiarity with legal drafting techniques and formatting requirements
- Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple cases simultaneously
- Detail-oriented mindset with strong attention to accuracy
