The Attorney’s Office in the Town of Paradise Valley (Town) is seeking a new team member to fill the role of Legal Assistant/Paralegal. In support of the Town’s mission to provide high-quality public services to a community that values limited government, the Paralegal performs complex paraprofessional work in support of the Town Prosecutor and prosecution of misdemeanor cases in the Town’s Municipal Court.
Specifically, the Legal Assistant/Paralegal:
- Performs case work by preparing and documenting files from case inception to final disposition and storage.
- Performs complex audio and video redaction of digital media, including police officer body worn camera videos.
- Processes long-form submittals and complaints to be filed with court and files legal documentation in the proper court.
- Oversees and assists in setting up case files.
- Coordinates the work of the Administrative Support Specialist within the department.
- Processes and responds to disclosure/discovery requests in accordance with legal requirements.
- Obtains case criminal history reports and certified records in/out of state; obtain DUI crime lab reports and notes from AZDPS.
- Monitor probation case files, Title 9 diversion cases, post-conviction cases; assists with correspondence and legal research.
- Coordinates and serves as liaison with Town Municipal Court, Police Department, code enforcement, and other department staff to provide and receive information on behalf of Town Prosecutor.
- Organizes and indexes case/matter documentation; tracks legal cases and collects statistical data.
- Assists in legal research by locating applicable precedents, legal opinions, statutes and orders by computerized information or hardcopy.
- Assists attorneys in preparation for trial, including assembling and reviewing files, organizing exhibits, and interviewing witnesses.

To become the Legal Assistant/Paralegal, the Town requires:
- An associate’s degree in a legal assistant, paralegal program, or a related field from an accredited educational institution.
- Three years of criminal paralegal experience OR five years as a legal secretary/legal assistant, in a prosecuting agency.
- A valid Arizona driver’s license (needed to obtain ACJIS certification.)
- Possess certification or have ability to become certified to operate ACJIS terminal.
The successful candidate also must:
- Successfully complete a background investigation which may include employment, education, and criminal history checks.
- Meet background requirements according to the CJIS Security Policy to become certified to operate terminal ACJIS terminals.
