DESCRIPTION
Shoreview, Minnesota, a premier City in the north metro area of the twin cities seeks an experienced Systems Administrator who is eager to further develop technological skills. This person will assist in protecting the city's critical systems and assets, build solutions, implement new software and hardware, provide training, and assist in developing the overall IT strategy.
From early on, the Systems Administrator will take on challenging assignments, lead initiatives, and be responsible for results. The ideal candidate is passionate about applying skills and expertise to an ever-changing technological environment.
This is a highly detailed position that requires strong organizational, creative, and customer service skills, as well as staying up to date on best practices.
DUTIES INCLUDE
- Performs server administration tasks (ex: user/group, security permissions, group policies, DNS, DHCP, print services); researches event-log warnings and errors; and monitors resources to ensure that systems architecture components work together seamlessly.
- Monitors data-center health using existing management tools, and responds to hardware issues as they arise; helps build, tests, and maintains new servers when needed.
- Maintains internal infrastructure requirements, including laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, security updates; supports internet, LANs, WANs, and network segments.
- Performs routine and scheduled audits of all systems, including backups.
- Communicates with internal technical personnel in order to provide technical advice and accomplish assigned work.
- Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures.
- Contributes to and maintains system standards.
- Researches and recommends innovative, and where possible automated approaches to system administration tasks.
- Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, system and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
- Applies upgrades on a regular basis to administrative tools and utilities.
- Supports and maintains critical communications equipment related to the city's water infrastructure.
- Builds, configures, and maintains application servers using virtualization technology.
- Assists in maintaining data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
- Responds to and resolves technical requests/problems submitted by city departments and personnel.
- Works with external vendors and contractors.
- Provides excellent customer service skills both internally and externally.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships.
- Conducts research regarding hardware, software, and/or other related equipment, provides related recommendations, and obtains vendor information.
- Plans, coordinates, implements, and/or oversees assigned technology projects
- Optimizes internal satisfaction through teamwork and a strong commitment to customer service.
- Other duties as assigned.
- May be subject to on-call duties and called out during emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or directly related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 4 years of experience in technology support and services
- Knowledge of multiple software applications and operating systems, including, but not limited to: Microsoft Operating Systems, Networking protocols, Microsoft SQL, virtualization, Apple products and VoIP system
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle report

- Additional education and professional certifications as it relates to the position
- Experience working in city or county government setting
- Experience in VMware, Jamf, Aruba, Google Workspace, Laserfiche, Extreme Networks, Knowbe4
OTHER
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, with varied hours as needed. This person must be available to respond to frequent requests outside of normal work hours.
Starting Salary Range: $89,606 - $98,862 annually, plus excellent benefits. This position is exempt from overtime pay.

Employee is frequently required to sit, talk, listen and hear; continuously use hands/fingers dexterously; and on occasion reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, stoop, kneel and/or crouch in the performance of the job. Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Duties of the job are primarily administrative in nature performed in an office environment. The physical and environmental hazards and risks associated with the job can be characterized as minimal.
