GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The IP Administrative Assistant/Docket Clerk is responsible for assisting in facilitating actions required to efficiently operate the Legal and IP Department by performing the day-to-day duties and functions relating to supervising the patent prosecution dockets and facilitating communication with and reporting to Kyocera Corporation regarding those dockets.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of relevant experience.
Fluency in oral and written Japanese.
- Prior experience in support of patent and/or trademark prosecution practice is strongly preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and administrative skills.
- Ability to respect, protect, and maintain confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail is paramount.
- Exceptional client service, both internal and external.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Downloading and saving all incoming patent prosecution correspondence to relevant folders on prosecution server.
- Translating communications to and from Kyocera Corporation regarding all aspects of patent prosecution.
- Preparing application documents for provisional and non-provisional applications and forwarding completed documents to patent attorney for review.
- Filing new US applications via USPTO’s online filing system.
- Docketing new US applications in IP Manager.
- Completing issued patent reviews and directing attorneys/paralegal’s attention to any errors found in issued patents.
- Preparing inventor assignments, requesting inventor signatures, and saving completed assignments to applicable folder on prosecution server.
- Preparing monthly prosecution expense report to Kyocera Corporation.
- Preparing forms for office action responses.
- Filing office action responses via USPTO’s online filing system.
- Tracking prior art references received across a patent family and docketing information disclosure statements for the US case as needed.
- Preparing information disclosure statements.
- Filing information disclosure statements.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
