Job Description

 

: As the Insurance and Safety Specialist you are responsible for supporting the Sales & Profit by developing and maintaining the safety and insurance programs to deliver the Best Customer Experience in line with the Security focuses in the Americas Region.

 

Acting as a subject matter expert, with a strong knowledge-based approach, you support the teams throughout the Americas to enable the best teams from a safety and insurance perspective.  You identify, analyze, and manage insurable risks and hazards.  You define safety and risk solutions that help optimize operations while minimizing any financial impact for the H&M Group.

 

The Insurance and Safety Specialist participates in insurance claims management for all lines of insurance.  This role is responsible for creating and implementing H&M standards, policies, and procedures to comply with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations to minimize accidents and health exposures to customers and colleagues for all brands.

 

This is a hybrid position with two days based in our New York or New Jersey Support Office and sits within our Security function and reports to our Regional Security and Compliance Manager.

 

Core Responsibilities includes but is not limited to*:

 

People and Teams - Acting as a subject matter expert with strong knowledge-based approach, you support the Americas Security Function from an insurance and safety perspective with an emphasis in North America.  You identify, analyze, and manage insurable risks and hazards. You define safety and risk solutions that help optimize operations while minimizing any financial impacts. You work cross functionally with all functions involved in the safety and risk scope of work.

 

  • Leads the identification, communication, measurement, and management of company-wide safety hazards and risks.
  • Partners with all departments regarding incident reports and claims or self-insured losses.
  • Develops and communicates plans to address risks and loss events, including analysis of loss exposures and financial impact on the company when losses occur.
  • Partners with key stakeholders to develop and implement standards, processes, programs, and best practices related to safety and risk management.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains communication of the hazard control program, including maintenance of safety data sheets.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains contingency plans and procedures for controlling hazardous exposures in accordance with government regulations.
  • Assists Legal Department by acknowledging service of process, reviewing contract insurance language, and resolving legal insurance cases.

 

Planning - You participate in insurance claims management for all lines of insurance.  You are responsible for creating and implementing H&M standards, policies, and procedures to comply with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations to minimize accidents and health exposures to customers and colleagues for all brands.

 

  • Manages NA insurance procurement and evaluates selection of local policies.
  • Periodically supports insurance topics and matters in markets within the Americas.
  • Develops and implements safety and insurance programs, policies, procedures, routines, trainings, and evaluates effectiveness of the control measures.
  • Manages relationships with third party service providers including brokers, attorneys, registered agent, underwriters, and claim administrators.
  • Coordinates and submits, as necessary, the gathering of insurance policy renewal data.
  • Investigates, resolves, and responds to all property and liability claims.
  • Provides timely notification of claims to insurance carriers.
  • Supports occupational health and safety complaints and inquiries from OSHA or other authorities.
  • Works with the company's insurance broker to respond to requests for certificates of insurance.
  • Identifies potential safety and risk exposures, recommends solutions, promotes health and safety, and maintains follow up.
  • Supports and at times manages all phases of the claims process from intake and investigation through litigation, settlement, and/or trial, and consults and/or participates in negotiations, conferences and mediations with adjusting companies, outside legal counsel, staff, claimants, and other involved parties.
  • Supports and at times manages the workers' compensation and incident reporting program and processes, reports claim to carriers, investigates fatalities and serious injuries, and monitors claim activity.
  • Participates in safety and insurance related inspections of warehouses, offices and stores, partners with key stakeholders to correct deficiencies.
  • Responsible for administration of H&M Auto Fleet Program.

Qualifications

 

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety and Occupational Health, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience
  • 2-3 years of experience in health and safety/ Loss Prevention/Insurance or related field
  • Strong knowledge of H&M practices, policies, and guidelines highly desired
  • Strong professional maturity and the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information
  • Proficient in MS Office and Adobe Acrobat- Standard or Professional
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of finance and accounting practices
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Required domestic and occasional international travel at least 40% of the time

Compensation:

Hiring Range is $86,804 - $97,655 annually**
