Position
The full-time, classified Instruction Support position under the general supervision of the Dean of Advanced Manufacturing will be responsible for performing various instructional and department support services. Duties typically include assisting in preparing materials and equipment for use in a shop, classroom or laboratory; setting up, maintaining and clean-up of operating equipment in accordance with standardized procedures or instruction received from academic or supervisory personnel; assisting instructors in equipment maintenance, monitoring classroom and lab safety protocols, coordinating shop inventory and material ordering across programs, and supporting students success in the classroom as needed. This position is open until filled.
The Instructional Support Technician - Advanced Manufacturing is represented by The Renton Professional Technical Association (Prof-Tech). The pay range for this role is $4,407 -$5,850 monthly and salary placement is based on applicable work experience. New hires may not be placed above Step 10 ($5,550.) Prof-Tech employees receive a yearly degree stipend if they have an Associate's degree $150, Bachelor's $250, or a Master's $350. Other benefits are listed on our and in the

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Under the direction of the department Dean, work collaboratively with faculty and staff to support high quality student learning outcomes.
  • Prepares equipment, materials, and technology for classwork projects; prepares demonstrations as requested by instructors.
  • Estimate quantity and quality of supplies and materials needed; orders equipment and supplies for the course; follows through with purchasing department or procurement of supplies; maintains adequate stock levels; Receive materials and supplies and coordinates delivery
  • Coordinates work orders and/or performs routine maintenance and repairs on laboratory equipment routine facilities inspections, maintenance, and regular industrial cleaning.

  • Maintains facility and equipment safety protocol; monitors safety equipment, safety plan, and notifications/signage
  • Coordinates department tours and participates in outreach activities as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership or participation in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with related field experience in welding, fabrication, or manufacturing environments.

  • Applicants with demonstrated ability to instruct students or providing training in the field of study are preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals whose first language is not English.
  • Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners.
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to work successfully with students, staff and the community.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically experience creating & editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Previous success learning new computer software programs/platforms required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Have or acquire within 90 days of initial employment and industrial first aid certificate and an industrial safety and hygiene certificate preferred.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working hours are generally aligned to business hours, Monday - Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and be on your feet for an 8-hour shift. Involves working in trades classroom environments with machinery. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus.

Health Insurance:
Coverage begins the first day of the month following the date of hire. If the date of hire is the first working day of the month, coverage begins immediately. Spouse or same-sex domestic partner, and dependent children are eligible for coverage.

Dental Coverage
Renton Technical College provides dental coverage at no monthly premium cost to the employee. Benefit eligible employees have a choice of dental plans. Options include:
  • Uniform Dental Plan (Preferred Provider Organization -PPO plan) Administered by Washington Dental Service (WDS)
  • DeltaCare (Managed Care Plan) Administered by Washington Dental Service (WDS)
  • Willamette Dental (Managed Care Plan) Administered by Willamette Dental

Vision
Employees do not pay separate premium for vision coverage; it is covered under the medical plan. Optical service frequency and hardware (glasses, contact lenses, etc.) vary depending on type of plan selected.
Waiving Medical Coverage
If you have other medical insurance you can choose to waive medical coverage for yourself or any family member. If you have existing coverage through your spouse or domestic partner, please contact the plan directly to see how they will coordinate benefits.
If waiving medical coverage, the employee will still be covered under the dental insurance plan at no monthly premium cost.
Medical Flex Spending Accounts (FSA& LFA) & Dependent Care FSA (DCAP)
The FSA, LFA and DCAP plans are offered by the College and the State of Washington. FSA is a PEBB sponsored benefit program that allows you to use pre-tax money in a calendar year to pay for certain out-of-pocket medical expenses and/or Child care expenses.
An FSA can save you 25 - 40% on your eligible expenses. Both plans are offered as payroll deductions.
Annual contributions in 2023 for Medical Flexible Account can be between a minimum of $120 to maximum of $2,850. As a "use it or lose it" IRC governed plan, medical expense reimbursements can be requested for employee, spouse, or their IRS eligible dependents.

Limited FSA is for employees enrolled in CDHP plans with HSA. Funds can only be used for dental and vision expenses only.
Dependent Care FSA (DCAP) allows you to save on child or elder care expenses
(e.g. babysitting, daycare, in-home care for an older dependent inept of self-care). Annual contribution is $5,000 for a Single person or Married couple filing a joint tax return.Contribution of $2,500 for each married participant filing separate tax returns.
Life-Insurance
Permanent employees, lawful spouse, qualified same-sex domestic partner and dependent children under 26 years of age are eligible to enroll in life Insurance. Coverage is effective first of the month following the date of employment for basic coverage; for optional coverage, amounts become effective the first of the month following approval date.
