Instructional Designer

The Opportunity:

As an Instructional Designer, you will manage the design and development of classroom and technology-based training courses. You'll apply specific functional, working, and general industry knowledge. You will develop or contribute to solutions fora variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. You'll work independently with some guidance and review or guide the activities of junior employees.

On our team, you’ll work with SMEs, instructors, or product designers to capture your customer’s training needs and advise them on the right learning solution to help them accomplish their mission or goals. Putting the learner at the center of the training experience, you’ll design synchronous and asynchronous material, or performance support tools. You’ll build training material with multimedia specialists, graphic artists, or instructors following the ADDIE model.

You’ll use your technical skills, creativity, and experience to come up with new ideas to develop an engaging, interactive learning experience on screen or in a classroom. You’ll recommend cutting-edge multimedia technologies and strategies, including blended learning, or gamification to build a successful learning environment. You know communication is key, so you’ll meet with SMEs, instructors, or product designers throughout the process to discuss learning material and incorporate feedback. To ensure your solution is hitting the mark, you’ll collect and analyze results using evaluation methodologies such as the Kirkpatrick Model, then fine-tune your training for maximum impact. You’ll be able to hone your leadership skills as you share your expertise through leadership and mentoring. As a leader, you’ll identify new opportunities to build solutions to your customer’s learning needs. You Have:

  • Experience with designing and developing instructional materials and training courses for adult learners and revising instructor-led training courses for virtual and classroom training delivery
  • Experience with designing, developing, and revising web-based training courses using various eLearning authoring tools such as Storyline or Lectora.
  • Experience with developing instructor materials, including course outlines, background material, and training aids
  • Experience with developing student materials, including course manuals, workbooks, handouts, completion certificates, and course evaluation forms
  • Experience in working with technical subject matter experts
  • Knowledge of ADDIE and instructional design and development frameworks
  • Ability to develop courses and instructional material to educate technical and non-technical personnel
  • Ability to prepare student materials, including course manuals, workbooks, handouts, completion certificates, and course evaluation forms
  • Ability to provide standards, services, and guidance on training programs
  • Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of experience with instructional design or Master’s degree and 3+ years of experience with instructional design

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $49,800.00 to $102,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
