Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) is seeking a Institutional Development Specialist (Grant Writer) in our Concord Administrative Office. This role is full-time, 40 hours per week. PPNorCal provides a comprehensive benefits package including 100% employer paid medical insurance for the employee, 50% employer paid medical insurance for dependent children, dental and vision coverage, employer paid life and long-term disability insurance, 15 days of paid time off to start, 10 paid holidays, and a 403(b) retirement plan with up to 4% employer match after 12 months of service.
SUMMARY

The Grant Writer supports and advances the Institutional (Grants) Philanthropy team through high-level grant writing and funder reports that drive philanthropic revenues. This position will also oversee complex data management for the grant process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensures compliance with the flow of a complex, deadline-driven calendar of grant reports, proposals, and data management for the Institutional Philanthropy team.
  • Maintains and utilizes fundraising and grants management software to manage grant preparation, notes, and actions. Generates standard reports and creates custom reports as needed.
  • Writes grant reports, proposals, and/or letters of intent (LOI) for Institutional funders.
  • Writes grant submissions to selected government agencies, foundations, and corporations.
  • Maintains and implements organizational systems, including managing digital files in convention with protocols.
  • Supports PPNorCal in all fundraising activities as needed, including off-site activities and off-hours fundraising events.
  • Creates external outreach marketing materials to support institutional philanthropy efforts.
  • Promptly writes, sends, and tracks acknowledgement letters and correspondence for grants received and ensures other team members complete acknowledgement letters.
  • Active participation in the advancement of PPNorCal’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion commitment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities but oversees some departmental processes.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university and 2-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical grant procedures, and governmental regulations. Excellent writing skills. Ability to write clear and compelling reports, proposals, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the public. Strong writing, proofreading, editing, and grammar skills. Strong diplomacy and communication skills.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Highly organized and detail oriented.

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook (including email and calendar systems), beginning to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Demonstrated knowledge of grant-tracking databases preferred, especially Raiser’s Edge.

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations in a grant-writing capacity required. Experience with nonprofit organizations in a general fundraising capacity preferred.
  • Excellent professional writing skills, with ability to compose and edit business communications in a timely manner.
  • Must possess the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks/projects with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess the ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines with professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Strong desire to work and excel in a fast-paced, results-driven organization.
  • Must possess the ability to implement systems to track and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent telephone communication and interpersonal skills: helpful, friendly and courteous in all contacts with board members, donors, volunteers, staff, and outside vendors.
  • Must have a commitment to teamwork and a willingness to assist other departments as needed.
  • Available to work occasional weekends and evenings, if needed.
  • Must possess a commitment to be part of an organization that supports quality health care and health care access for all.

Pay Range: Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) supports California’s new law (SB 1162) enhancing pay transparency. This new law requires employers with 15 or more employees to include a pay range in job postings. The pay range reflects the compensation that a new employee can expect to receive if offered employment. Employees with more experience, education, and other qualifying factors may be compensated at a higher rate of pay. The pay range for this position is $64,480 - $70,000 annualized salary.
