Perdue AgriBusiness is seeking an Ingredient Sourcing / Buyer for our Animal Nutrition division in Salisbury, Maryland.
The primary objective of the Ingredient Sourcing / Buyer is to manage the procurement of feed ingredients, ensuring a cost-effective and consistent supply for the Animal Nutrition division. Responsibilities include soliciting offers, negotiating with vendors, and providing market analysis for strategic contracting and least-cost formulation. Additionally, this role involves forecasting supply chain needs, managing operational requirements, and accurate entry of trades, contracts, and load orders for both reporting and execution. A key aspect is to significantly contribute to the division's bottom line profitability through efficient procurement and supply chain management.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Strategic Procurement and Vendor Negotiation: Solicit offers from approved vendors for ingredients and negotiate the best purchase prices. Utilize demand projections to strategically execute trades, aligning procurement with facility needs.
- Data Management and Systematic Entry: Accurately enter and manage purchase orders, contracts, load orders, and other relevant data in the purchasing system. Maintain meticulous records for operational transparency and accountability.
- Market Analysis and Procurement Strategy: Keep track of historical and projected price trends to inform procurement decisions. Provide insights for strategic contracting and least-cost formulation, contributing to cost-effective procurement practices.
- Cost Management and Logistics Optimization: Actively monitor and seek solutions to reduce logistics costs related to dwell, demurrage, and detention. Implement strategies to enhance efficiency and minimize expenses in the supply chain.
- Safety, Compliance, and Flexibility: Ensure all activities comply with safety guidelines and company policies. Remain adaptable to perform a variety of tasks as assigned by the supervisor, demonstrating flexibility in responding to the dynamic needs of the division.
Minimum Education
- BA/BS in Business, Ag Business, Animal Science, Ag Business Management OR similar field, OR demonstrated industry related experience.
Experience Requirements
- 5 – 10 Years previous experience procuring feed ingredients for animal nutrition.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
Able to move freely throughout the facility to include climbing vertical heights (0-50’)
Lifting up to 50 pounds.
Exposure to extreme temperatures (0 - 100 Degrees Fahrenheit), humidity (0 - 100%), noise (50db - 100db), and chemicals (MSDS sheets available).
