The City of Bradenton is seeking an experienced Engineer who is self-directed with extensive knowledge of project management and general civil engineering for internal and external projects.
The City of Bradenton Municipal Government is experiencing a major transformation in the coming years with both municipal and private development growing our beautiful and fast-growing City. There are a few projects that are underway, and many more that will be beginning in the months to come. A new engineer for the City would be involved in many aspects of these exciting projects which include: a new Fire Station #2, a new Bradenton Police Department Building, a Public Works Complex, a Public Safety Operations Center, the completion of a 1.5-mile addition to the beautiful Bradenton Riverwalk and, potentially, a new City Hall, just to name a few.
In addition to the municipal projects listed above, the City of Bradenton is experiencing major economic growth with new private development. The private development includes: a new Art Center Manatee, as well as new housing projects at 920 Manatee Avenue, Riverview 6 and The Met, among others. Challenges:
Suncoast Waterkeeper - the City of Bradenton’s wastewater systems and water infrastructure are somewhat outdated and require much-needed upgrades to its wastewater and sewage treatment system. The ideal Engineer will spearhead and ensure that improvements to the City’s sewage treatment plant are compliant with the agreement with the Suncoast Waterkeeper. The improvements include increasing pumping and treatment capacity and upgrading disinfection capabilities. The City will also address issues in the collection system, minimizing Infiltration and Inflow (I&I), including assessing the condition of pipes, finding leaks, and ensuring the availability of backup power. Underground utility experience would be helpful to working with our internal and consulting engineering team. Along with all these changes is an update to the City’s capacity, management, operation, and maintenance programs for its sewage collection system. In addition, improve local waters and/or estuarine habitats.
The ideal candidate will assist the City of Bradenton in the satisfying compliance requirements such as providing timely updates, procurement, delivery and installation of sewer pipe lining and manhole inspections. The Engineer will also help the City on the injection well project, a means of having the City expedite the process of removing itself from the Manatee River for the return of treated water, ahead of State of Florida required date of completion.
In addition, the Candidate will provide professional engineering advice and technical assistance on City environmental issues to other City departments and works with each to develop projects for inclusion in the city-wide Capital Improvements.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited engineering college. Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida, or the ability to secure registration within twenty four (24) months of appointment. Two (2) to four (4) years of related experience in engineering planning and design of public infrastructure systems and/or stormwater system management. Experience in general Public Works operations and management a plus. Familiarity with Aquifer Storage and Recovery systems and/or familiarity with FDOT permitting procedures and requirements a plus. The salary for this position is commensurate with experience.
