Position Summary
Oversees insurance authorizations for imaging at Beacon Clinic, acting as a liaison between facilities and patients for scheduling. This role includes coordinating imaging appointments, medical doctor follow-ups, and lab testing to ensure a smooth and efficient healthcare process for our patients.
Job Duties
- Serves as support to patients and their family members to assure patients have insurance approvals and coordination of benefits from all private as well as governmental agencies (i.e., private insurance, Christian Sharing, HMO/PPO’s, Medicare, and contract health.)
- Prepare patient’s imaging orders and facilitate scheduling with respective facilities.
- Pull imaging results and place them in the HER prior to next office visit.
- Provides estimates to patients for planned imaging, when applicable.
- Discuss imaging orders, scheduling, insurance, and prior authorization documents with patients.
- Obtains prior authorization approval from insurance companies.
- Appeal any denials from insurance companies for imaging as well as communicate reasoning for denial with providers.
- Assess accounts for completeness and accuracy.
- Follow up on missing or incorrect information so patients receive the right reimbursement.
- Use online web portals efficiently to obtain authorizations for imaging.
- Read and interpret patients’ current diagnosis, staging and relative line of therapy accurately.
- Communicate with patients, providers, and patient access manager all financial barriers to testing and try to resolve before next office visit appointment. (e.g., denials, noninsured, no patient response, imaging facility delays).
- Schedule patients with their provider and send lab orders, as necessary.
- Resolve inbox tasks within the week.
- Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames.
- Identifies both patient and Beacon expectations and strives to excel at them.
- Actively participates in and encourages others to utilize creative and innovative approaches to accomplish tasks.
- Demonstrates responsibility for ongoing personal development, professional growth, and continuing education.
- Performs duties in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision or direction.
Required Skills/Abilities

Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- medical terminology or other medical experience strongly recommended.
