The Human Resources Specialist will assist with the delivery and implementation of various HR Department day-to-day and strategic initiatives in support of department and agency goals and objectives. This position serves as a subject matter expert on various aspects of Human Resources and represents the HR Department by participating in interdepartmental initiatives and projects including but not limited to I-9 management, training and assisting management in job transfers, promotions, and payroll changes and all employment verification requests. The Human Resources Specialist will also oversee the management of FMLA and non-FMLA leave of absences and unemployment compensation claims, as well as additional assigned responsibilities within the department.
Some Essential Functions of the Position:
- Management of the leave and accommodation process including developing processes, maintaining employee communication and follow up, tracking leaves, and other tasks as needed.
- Oversee and review employee relations and disciplinary actions for programs.
- Coordinate the FMLA and Non-FMLA leaves of absences process – includes sending letters and forms, collect medical documentation, maintain files and track timelines, etc.
- Respond to unemployment claims by providing needed information and documentation and attending hearings when applicable.
- Complete requests for employment verification and references requests.
- I-9 Management including training and overseeing semi-annual audits.
- Conduct training with new supervisors on the performance management process.
- Assist supervisors with and/or prepare all payroll change forms, including staff pay rate changes, job transfers, promotions, status changes, one time payments, and removals from payroll.
- Track probationary periods and notify supervisors when evaluations are due.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- Associate Degree in Human Resources or a related field, required.
- 3-5 plus years of experience in an HR capacity, required.
- Professional HR certification, preferred.
- Ability to travel to various KenCrest sites as necessary in PA, DE and CT.
- Knowledge of government regulations as they apply to compensation programs and operations.
- Strong computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel and HRIS.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to make presentations to all levels of management staff.
