Human Resource Manager - Retail
Reporting to the Sr Director, Human Resources, the HR Manager is responsible for providing strategic HR support to retail leadership at the regional, district, and store levels, and is also responsible for enabling management effectiveness by leading workforce planning, talent and employee relations initiatives. This role focuses on employee relations, change management, performance management, investigations and legal compliance for a region comprised of 80-100 locations. This is a full-time, exempt position field based in California with travel to Emeryville.
What You Will Do
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Partner
- Establishes and maintains partnerships with regional, district, and store level retail leadership and acts as a business partner to assigned population.
- Presents at regional and team meetings and facilitates immersion meetings, in partnership with Regional Director.
- Provides counsel and assists retail leadership with employee development planning, succession planning and retention, in partnership with Talent team to ensure regional talent priorities are met.
- Conducts ongoing information and training sessions on a variety of HR and compliance topics.
- Provides leadership in creating an energizing and productive culture, in cultivating Peet's values, and in making Peet's a great place to work.
- Is knowledgeable and has experience with sick leave policies as well as COVID procedures and case management.
- Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the team and the organization.
Employee Relations
- Provides counsel and support to retail leadership in resolving employee issues, conducting investigations, and monitoring case activity, ensuring follow through to resolution.
- Provides counsel to retail leaders regarding the on-going performance management of their teams, including performance improvement plans, disciplinary action and terminations. Drafts, implements and ensures compliance with Peet's HR policies, procedures, and initiatives, and monitors compliance with all statutory and legal requirements.
- Implements and executes proactive positive employee relations initiatives.
- Counsels hiring managers regarding hiring practices and procedures and ensures compliance and understanding of EEO, hiring, and compensation guidelines.
- Partners with cross-functional support teams on employee matters related to leaves of absence, workplace accommodations, injuries, benefits, pay and safety.
- Responds to employee questions and concerns at all levels via Open Door Policy.
- Partners with internal and external counsel to prepare for, and, as necessary, appear at, arbitrations, depositions, mediations, and other court proceedings.
Who You Are
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of diverse manager level Human Resources experience with broad knowledge of employee relations, performance management and partnership to leadership and employees alike to drive business outcomes.
- Extensive experience in a multi-unit retail environment, or comparable experience within hospitality or manufacturing environments.
- Thorough knowledge and ability to train on applicable local, state and federal employment law.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, make decisions, and resolve conflicts.
- Excellent communication and presentations skills. Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Must be a team player with superior coaching and consultative skills.
- Highly Proficient with various technologies such as ER case management systems, HRIS, Applicant Tracking Systems and standard MS Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to travel locally throughout the bay area regularly and within California up to 25%.
