The HR Manager is responsible for performing professional HR-related duties and collaborating with senior management to support designated geographic regions. This position assists with circumstances relative to the following functional responsibilities: employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, legal compliance and compensation/benefit administration.
Primary Duties:
- Development and administration of various Human Resources plans and procedures for personnel
- Assists development and evaluation of reports, decisions and results/outcomes of department in relation to established goals.
- Partners with Management and Business unit to formulate appropriate plans and human capital planning.
- Serves as Initial point of contact for staffing related decisions.
- Resolves employee relations issues including disciplinary action, employee conflicts and conducting internal investigations.
- Collaborates with Payroll to monitor employee pay, discrepancies, time card issues or earned time approval.
- Develops and conducts training on HR-related topics such as: Sexual Harassment, Medical Leaves, ADA/EEOC Compliance, Corrective Behavior, Ethics, Hiring/Performance Management, etc.
- Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of department and services performed.
- Administers compensation program; monitors the performance evaluation program and revises as necessary.
- Maintains personnel records and responds to employment-related inquiries.
- Conducts new-employee orientations.
- Handles employee relations counseling and exit interviewing.
- Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.
- Maintains Human Resource Information System (HRIS) records and compiles reports from the database.
- Monitors and administers all appropriate employee leaves.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and laws and regulations.
- Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
- Coordinates employee relation activities such as awards programs, employee relation activities and company sponsored events.
- Participates in the recruiting process and collaborates in close conjunction with the Safety and Recruiting Teams.
- Establishes relationships with employees as point of contact – engagement – liaison – employee advocate
- Maintains organizational confidentiality.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve department and company goals.
- Performs safety-related observations and suggests recommendations for improvement.
- Complies with all safety policies, practices and procedures; reports all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
- Maintains awareness of employment laws, practices, legislation and industry standards.
- Collaborates with the preparation and administration of polices/practices in the employee handbook.
- Identifies continuous improvement opportunities and develops action plans to implement them.
- Works efficiently to achieve or exceed performance targets for business/facility outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of Human Resources.
- Experience working in the Transportation and Logistics fields (preferred).
- Knowledge of Transportation, DOT rules and regulations and FMCSA (preferred).
- Experience working with industry-related HRIS programs (ADP).
- Intermediate computer skills, Microsoft Word (including: Email, Excel, PowerPoint and Routine Database Activity, etc.).
- Previous experience working with diverse workforce from boardroom to shop floor.
- Experience in variety of HR Competencies: Change Management, Employee Relations, Compensation/Benefits, Employment Law, Performance and Human Capital Management.
- Experienced communicator; ability to work with a variety of people.
- Experience working with tight timeframes; prioritizing and solid organizational skills
