Position Summary:
The HR Leave Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and administering all leave programs, including state disability, worker's compensation, FMLA, voluntary shared leave, leave of absence, and other HR responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of leave laws and regulations in North Carolina and will have experience working in a public school system.
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with coursework in human resources, business administration, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Considerable experience working with employee benefits administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Board policies, state and federal laws regarding all leave programs, including state disability, worker's compensation, FMLA, voluntary shared leave, leave of absence.
- Ability to operate standard payroll and human resource information systems.
- Ability to operate cooperatively with other departments.
- Ability to prepare applicable records, reports and documentation.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contract service providers, and the general public.
- Ability to work independently to resolve employee issues using available resources.
Essential Functions:
- Manage and administer all leave programs, including state disability, worker's compensation, FMLA, voluntary shared leave, leave of absence, and other HR responsibilities.
- Work with employees and managers to process leave requests, including determining eligibility, calculating leave balances, and communicating leave policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to employees on all leave-related issues, including leave entitlement, usage, and reinstatement.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable leave laws and regulations, including state and federal FMLA, ADA, and worker's compensation laws.
- Develop and maintain accurate records of employee leave and work with payroll to ensure accurate and timely payment of leave benefits.
- Work collaboratively with other HR team members to ensure consistent and fair application of HR policies and procedures.
- Provide training and support to managers and supervisors on leave-related issues and policies.
- Stay up-to-date on changes to leave laws and regulations and communicate changes to HR team members and employees as needed.
- Attends and contributes to the School Safety Committee on a monthly basis or as scheduled.
- Prepares OSHA year-end report on school system employee injuries and other similar reports.
- Other HR duties as assigned.
