Definition of Classification:
Under the supervision of the Parent Coaching Program Manager, this position functions as a direct link between children and families in accordance with the designated funding contract. This position provides intensive Family Strengthening Services which can include but not be limited to any and/or all the following: Home Visitation services following the Parents as Teachers (PAT) and Raising A Reader (RAR) Curriculums, comprehensive assessment of children and families using the Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQs) and Parents Assessment of the Protective Factors (PAPF) tools, referrals to community services, and monthly facilitation of parent workshops. In addition, this position is responsible for outreach/recruitment as well as intake and enrollment of children and families into the program. This position will make weekly home visits to the families enrolled in the program and will build/maintain a caseload of 20 families.
Description of Duties may include and and/or all the following:
1. Represent the agency in a consistently professional manner, always modeling a commitment to the agency’s mission and values.
2. Maintain family case files on a weekly basis and assist with any related statistical and/or evaluation components.
3. Maintain all tracking spreadsheets on a weekly basis and assist with any related statistical and/or evaluation components.
4. Provide intensive Home Visitation to assigned families while maintaining fidelity of the designated curriculums as applicable.
5. Provide concrete activities and education to strengthen parent and child attachment and bring the child into focus.
6. Teach and role model problem solving skills to enhance family functioning and assist in setting and achieving family goals.
7. Attending meetings as assigned.
8. Support families in providing a healthy and safe environment for children.
9. Coach parents to act as advocates for themselves and their children.
10. Provide developmental and behavioral assessments for children.
11. Establish trust with families through family centered support and encouragement.
12. Have a solid working knowledge of all the rules, regulations, and laws that apply to the contracts.
13. Have a solid working knowledge of strengths-based case management, trauma informed practices, behavior interventions, and therapeutic techniques. Job Description: Family Advocate Page 2 of 3 Updated 12/19/2023.
14. Promote and maintain a sense of teamwork between assigned department and other CAPC staff, First 5, community partner agencies, and other individuals relevant to the successful case management of each family.
15. Network with other community agencies and participate when requested in community events, health fairs, and other events designed to promote CAPC programs.
16. Other duties, program specific and CAPC related, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university, with major courses in Social Services, Psychology, Child Development, or a closely related field, preferred.
Experience: Two years of relevant experience working with children and families, or social work case management required. Bilingual in English/Spanish required.
Knowledge of: Child Development and Child Abuse issues.
Ability to: Gather and analyze data-organize and compile data for reports. Read, understand, interpret, and apply pertinent rules and regulations. Express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain working relationships with others. Present oneself professionally.
Technical Skills: Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher). Ability to use both a desktop and a tablet for basic client file and spreadsheet management and monthly completion of parent workshop flyers.
Condition of Employment: Employee shall be required to provide a T.B. Clearance, submit fingerprints for Department of Justice Clearance, and annually provide a DMV record report compliant with the agency’s liability insurance requirements. Employee must have a car, a valid driver’s license, and proof of automobile insurance. Employee must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with clients and co-workers in a compassionate, non-discriminatory, and non-judgmental manner. The position is dependent on continued funding and is an at-will position. Available to work on evenings and weekends as required by supervisor.
Mandated Reporter: As outlined in the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), employees in this position qualify as Mandated Reporters and are required to report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to relevant authorities. General mandated reporter training must be successfully completed within the first 90 days of employment and renewed annually. Additional mandated reporter training must be completed as outlined by the supervisor.
Physical Demands: In order to perform the job duties associated with this position, the employee is regularly required to use his/her hands to assemble, handle, grasp objects, tools, and/or controls. The ability to talk, sit, stand, walk, and hear well is necessary.
