1736 Family Crisis Center offers services to domestic violence survivors, homeless and at-risk Veterans, runaway and homeless youth and others in crisis assisting approximately 5,000 individuals annually.

Community outreach programs are provided to educate the public about issues related to poverty, violence, mental health and homelessness. DART is a partnership between LAPD and victim advocacy organizations in 21 Divisions. 1736 FCC is the victim advocacy organization that serves LAPD’s Harbor Division.

Summary:

The DART Advocate will provide on-scene crisis intervention/response for domestic violence victims through LAPD ride-along and follow-up services. The DART Advocate will work alongside DART officers to provide crisis intervention directly to victims during their peak hours when domestic violence crimes occur, which are typically in the evenings (1:30pm to 12:00am). This position will require extensive service coordination with LAPD, intra-agency programs, and community resources as needed. The DART Advocate will directly assist victims in crisis at the scene of the crime and be responsible for all corresponding case files.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-scene crisis intervention/response for domestic violence victims.
  • Help clients create Safety Plans and Services Plans or give referrals as needed.
  • Compile and maintain confidential case files for all clients served.
  • Provide follow-up case management services to DV victims, including but not limited to updating Safety Plans and linking clients to legal, housing, mental health, and employment services when the clients are not taken in one of our domestic violence shelters for care.
  • Provide in-home aftercare visits as needed accompanied by DART Officer.
  • Collaborate with the internal legal clinic regarding DV victims' rights.
  • Conduct DV training for LAPD officers, during roll call meetings and quarterly as needed.
  • Participate in outreach and education in the community.
  • Compile accurate monthly status updates and progress reports on DART to be submitted to the Mayor's office in a timely manner
  • Participate in conferences, workshops, presentations, staff meetings and other required trainings and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Prior Experience and knowledge of domestic violence and its impact
  • Ability to work well with law enforcement and effectively representing the agency
  • Ability to remain composed in high stress situations
  • Cultural competency and the ability to build rapport quickly
  • Related work experience preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
