Job Description
Position Title:High School Assistant Principal
Location: RHS
Reports to:High School Principal, Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent
Supervises: Teachers, Custodians, Secretaries, Aides, Coaches
Category : CERT/ Exempt

Number of Days Worked: 260
Summary Statement: The Assistant Principal is the instructional leader and administrative officer of the school and is responsible for developing a future driven school that is grounded in a culture where all members of the learning community feel valued and welcomed. The Principal is responsible for using data and data analytics to promote the social, emotional and cognitive growth of all learners.
Essential Functions:
  • Develops a shared vision for the school building that aligns to the mission of the District.
  • Plans, organizes, supervises and directs implementation of all school activities.
  • Provides the leadership and supervision needed to ensure a learner-first vision in the school.
  • Utilize assessment results to improve student achievement and provides reports as requested.
  • Establishes and solicits support from local community groups, businesses, and others to aid in overall achievement of school objectives and programs.
  • Provide educational leadership for the building by attending all professional development sessions as required.
  • Prepares professional learning for teachers.
  • Provides monthly reports on student progress, teacher observation and feedback as requested.
  • Ensures that communication is open, ongoing and timely with parents, teachers and students.
  • Plans, organizes and holds teacher and parent meetings to discuss and concerns, and provides resolution to the concerns in a timely fashion.
  • Provides leadership in building schedules that ensure equitable access for all students.
  • Provides the necessary leadership to the guidance department to ensure that student needs are met and addressed.
  • Leads staff in scheduled reviews of student work product and drives discussions and revisions to teacher planning and instruction based on reviews.
  • Ensures that all students who are at risk of failure are included in an integrated system of supports during the school year and that students in need are enrolled in planned, purposeful and engaging summer programming so that 100% of students are prepared for entrance into the next grade level.
  • Works with the Director of Curriculum, Learning, Innovation and Assessment.
  • Monitors student achievement rates and provides written reports as requested by the Director of Curriculum, Learning, Innovation and Assessment.
  • Monitors student discipline incidents and provides appropriate leadership in creating a building climate that is learning centered and respectful.
  • Monitors student attendance and provides leadership to guidance counselors in eliminating truancy.
  • Creates a mechanism for shared leadership in the school.
  • Develops opportunities for student demonstration of learning to parents through student led conferences or other student led activities.
  • Works with the Director of Building and Grounds to ensure that the building is clean and free of debris and clutter, inside and out.
  • Appropriately prepares all students for standardized testing, administers testing in compliance with all state and local guidelines.
  • Organizes and hold Junior National Honor Society programming and evening induction ceremony
  • Creates and maintains a culture of learning and respect.
  • Manage budget, supplies and all cash handling in a fiscally responsible and appropriate manner.
  • Provide written policies and procedures for general building operations.
  • Implement all district policies.
  • Implements and follows all state, local and federal guidelines, statutes and regulations.
  • Attends concerts, plays, student awards ceremonies, and other events as required.
  • Provides press releases as required.
  • Provides the needed leadership and knowledge to serve as the LEA in all IEP meetings and ensures that students with disabilities receive FAPE.
  • Uses the website. One Call and Ringgold APP as communication tools and provides for current and timely information and updates to parents, faculty and community.
  • Collaborates with Elementary Principals and prepares and plans for student transition to 7/8
  • Performs tasks as related or other duties as assigned.

Required Education: Master's degree with Principal Certification
Required Skills and Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of Chapter 14, 15 and 16.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of all Chapter 14, 15 and 16 guidelines and fulfills all responsibilities as the LEA at IEP meetings.
  • Able to delegate authority while maintaining accountability.
  • Assist in the development of long and short range district goals and set appropriate educational priorities.
  • Provide a positive leadership example for district personnel.
  • Immediately reports any instances of unethical, illegal or immoral conduct.
  • Adheres to the state code of ethics, and the educator code of conduct.
  • Possess effective communication, judgment, planning, and human relation skills, and will be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with other administrators, teachers, parents, students, Board members, support staff, colleagues, and outside professional contacts.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; proficiency in the use of technology for individual and system management, communication, and research; proficiency in presentation technology to enhance small and large group information and demonstration sessions.

  16. Control of Others- seizing, holding, controlling, and/or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive, or physically threatening persons to defend oneself or prevent injury. Body strength and agility of all four limbs is necessary.
  17. B) Strength
  18. Sedentary - Exerts up to 10lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
  19. Light - Exert up to 20lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of Sedentary work. Light work usually require walking or standing to a significant degree.

  25. Talking- Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which workers must impart oral information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  26. Hearing- Perceiving the nature of sounds. Used for those activities which require ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sounds, such as when making fine adjustments on running engines.
  27. E) Vision
  28. Near Acuity- Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Use this factor when special and minute accuracy is demanded.
  29. Far Acuity - Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Use this factor when visual efficiency in terms of far acuity is required in day and night/dark conditions.
  30. Depth Perception- Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.
  31. Accommodation- Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. Use this factor when requiring near point work at varying distances.
  32. Color vision - Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  33. Field of Vision- Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. Use this factor when to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. Use this factor when job performance requires seeing a large area while keeping the eyes fixed.

  35. Exposure to Weather- Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather.
  36. Extreme Cold- Exposure to non-weather related cold temperatures.
