TITLE: Cafeteria Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Food Services

LOCATION: Various

REPORTS TO: Cafeteria Manager

Summary of Purpose

This position is responsible for carrying out daily food preparation and serving assignments.

Essential Functions

1. Serves meals to students and staff in accordance with National School Lunch Program guidelines.

2. Operates and maintains primary kitchen equipment.

3. Assists the Cook in food preparation as required; follows standardized recipes.

4. Complies with kitchen sanitation and safety standards in accordance with Serv-Safe guidelines.

5. Follows kitchen clean-up schedule after meal service.

6. Performs other duties that may be assigned by the Cafeteria Manager.

7. Maintains an optimum relationship with other staff members by being courteous and always mindful of the importance of confidentiality.

Marginal Functions will vary with the specific assignment and depend on the particular position function for which the person is responsible.

SCOPE AND IMPACT

This position accomplishes most of its tasks through standard operating procedures. Internal contacts include administrators, the food services staff, teachers, principals, students and other school district employees. The external contacts include parents and the general public.

Minimum Requirements

Experience with food serving and preparation is helpful.

Special Skills

Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of verbal and written communication. Must possess basic math skills. Organized. Tactful. Team player.

Physical/Mental/Environmental

Physical: Sit: 20%; walk/stand 80%

Lifting: 50 lbs. or more

Vision: Normal

Mental: Ability to evaluate, interpret and analyze; written and verbal communications.

Environment: Normal cafeteria environment.
