Job Description
Essential Functions
1. Assists in answering incoming phone calls to the waiting area.
2. Provides verbal reassurance and explanation to patients/families as necessary, treating them with respect and dignity.
3. Maintains frequent contact (at least every 30 minutes; more frequently as indicated) with all patients waiting to be seen in the Emergency Department. If the patient perceives any change in his/her medical status, this information will be immediately relayed to the triage nurse or clinical coordinator.
4. Acts as a liaison between family members and the Emergency Department staff by establishing a contact person and by assisting the family with any requests or problems they may have and explaining where the patient is in the ED process.
5. Assists in obtaining wheelchairs in order to transport patients from the parking lot to the Emergency Department. Assist patients from vehicles to an appropriate method of transport with the assistance of clinical staff as needed.
6. Maintains cleanliness of triage area Emergency Department waiting area and restroom. Notifies housekeeping of needed services when necessary.
7. Maintains confidentiality regarding all patients.
8. Performs miscellaneous and other related duties as assigned.
Regularly exposed to contagious diseases. Will have contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant elements including accidents, injuries and illnesses. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Must be able to handle emergency or crisis situations.

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent. No prior experience is required. Must be able to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions. Must possess a high level of interpersonal skills enabling one to gain cooperation, effectively interact with patients, visitors, physicians and hospital staff.
