Expected Starting Salary Range: 19.73 - 24.05

The self-motivated applicant will work in the Baglaenko Lab within the Division of Genetics. This human immunology focused group studies the basis of autoimmune disease using techniques in genomics, genetics, and systems biology with an emphasis on technology development. This position will focus on understanding the genetic drivers of human B cell responses using novel sequencing approaches.

Working under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, the qualified applicant will conduct basic immunological and molecular biology techniques including sterile cell culture, MACS sorting of human PBMCs, and RNA/DNA extraction. Experience in Flow Cytometry, PCR, CRISPR, cloning, liquid handling automation, and maintenance of cell lines is not required but desirable. Data will be analyzed using R and Flowjo. The ideal candidate will have experience in sterile cell culture techniques, basic cellular immunology techniques and concepts, and a strong interest in developing a career in medical sciences. The position offers a unique opportunity to expand research methodologies within the rich scientific community of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine tests following established methodologies. Routine tests may include isolation of B cells from PBMCs, running flow cytometry on isolated samples, cloning and isolation of mRNA and protein, and RNA/DNA isolation.

2. Prepares and maintains tissue cultures.

3. Record data, summarizes, and analyzes results using basic statistics.

4. Prepares laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipment.

5. Maintains supplies inventory in accordance with departmental procedures.

6. Discusses progress of work regularly with supervisor.

7. Assists in obtaining approval for protocols by:

§ organizing required documents

§ drafting applications to obtain required samples for projects.

8. All other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required for RAII:

· High school diploma or equivalent AND 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline. OR

Preferred:

-Bachelor's degree in a related field

· Good organizational skills, detail oriented.

· Ability to efficiently present and disseminate scientific material.

· Sound degree of computer literacy.

· Ability to methodically record data and to analyze data using basic statistics.

· Ability to perform a variety of routine tests and prioritize work.

· Good interpersonal and excellent communication skills.

· Ability to demonstrate professionalism.
