Summary of Position
The Graphic Designer will use artistic, marketing, and design software skills to develop signs for businesses, municipalities, retail, education, and other customers. To do this effectively, the Graphic Designer will research and understand local zoning laws and have a comprehensive knowledge of signage material options, and fabrication methods and processes.
The Graphic Designer is primarily responsible for completing all aspects of graphic design for Signarama customers including the entire process of defining requirements, visualizing, and creating all designs. The Graphic Designer works in the Signarama showroom and is secondarily responsible for providing customer service to walk-ins when appropriate.
This is a full-time position. Benefits are available after the required waiting periods, including health insurance reimbursement, life insurance, 401(k) with matching, and paid time off. The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 8:30am – 5 pm. Overtime may be required periodically based on company needs and order volume.
Duties and responsibilities
- Work with Manager, sales reps, and production team to execute designs that meet the customer needs and requirements of the project.
- Actively collaborate with the sales rep and customer to evaluate project needs and meet project objectives and timelines.
- Understand the proofing process, make corrections, and provide architectural submittals for permitting and site manager approval.
- Prepare plans, production specifications, cross sections, elevations, and detailed drawing packages for customers and production teams.
- Coordinate with teams to ensure processes for completion meet the requirements of the various production processes and touchpoints.
- Projects will cover multiple design disciplines including retail, municipal, workplace, higher ed, and consulting, allowing for crossover between graphic design, environmental graphic design, brand strategy, and architectural layout.
- Communicate professionally and courteously with team and clients.
- Meet with customers as needed to answer questions about all drawings.
- Collaborate with architects to integrate designs into the architectural drawing sets.
- Attend departmental meetings as required.

- Skilled visual sense and understanding of typography, composition, multiple media platforms, legibility, standards development, documentation, and information design skills.
- Ability to visualize in two or three dimensions.
Required Education, and Experience
- Proven graphic design experience with a portfolio to illustrate the breadth and quality of your work.
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design with at least 3 years professional graphic design experience; experience is signage and/or printing strongly preferred.
- Understanding of the sign-building and fabrication process including file setup for printing, cutting, and routing – bleeds, drill hole locations, substrate sizes, scaling, and proofing.
- Full understanding of raster and vector, as well as full command of RGB and CMYK.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and/or performing repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to stand, bend, squat, lift, etc.
