- Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and evaluated the activates of assigned components within the Towson University Police Department.
- With the direct support of those reporting to him will assign and direct policies and regulations and determine priorities of the departmental components under their command.
- Prepares for review and approval, budgetary submissions and manages the assigned budgetary allocations to assigned areas of the Police Department.
- Prepares necessary requests, justifications, revues expense reports, and will also forecast expenditures some designated areas in the department.
- Participates in staff meetings and recommends the implementation and modification of agency directives; evaluates and implements methods for improving the performance and work quality of personnel.
- Determines work priorities, plans schedules, assigns, and reviews subordinates’ work.
- Monitors and evaluates the performance of subordinates; initiates disciplinary actions as necessary; conducts internal investigations as assigned.
- As part of on-call commander or when filling in for Patrol and/or OSB commander in their absence, may respond to scenes of emergencies, disturbances, or disasters. May oversee the major criminal and administrative investigations.
- May assume command of agency and support personnel according to protocol.
- In the absence of the AVP of Public Safety and Chief of Police, maintain regular contact with various senior administrators, department chairs, etc. of the university on diverse matters of sensitivity, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Maintains frequent contacts with students, parents, staff, faculty, and the general public regarding the mission of the University Police as well as the university safety, security, criminal investigations, and other related matters.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Master's Degree preferred in a related field to law enforcement or public safety.
- Preferred five or more years of experience managing public safety operations at a bureau level.
- Valid Driver’s license Class C or equivalent with less than 6 points.
- Five or more years of supervisory experience in a police department.
- Certified as a Police Officer in the State of Maryland by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions or ability to obtain same with comparative compliance class.
- Knowledge of planning, Organizing, Directing, Staffing, Controlling, reporting, budgeting, Problem solving abilities, computer skills, excellent writing skills.
