Fragrance Analytical Chemist

IFF is seeking a highly motivated Scent Technology and Innovation Scientist to join our team.  The position will provide an opportunity to be a part of the team for new fragrance creations, concepts, and solutions to our Fabric and Home Care Technology.

Key focus will be on Fragrance Analysis and Fragrance Performance analytical support which will be used in IFF Global and Regional projects, including leveraging new Fragrance technologies, and technical understanding, which clearly meet defined needs of consumers and/or customers.  The outcome of this work will be new products and product/ingredient insights that provide IFF with opportunities for profitable growth.

Job Requirements and Scope

• Carry out fragrance extractions of consumer market samples using a variety of techniques
• Perform GC/MS analysis on fragrance extractions and raw materials 
• Reconstruct fragrances by creating a formula based upon those interpretations using natural essential oils, aroma chemicals, synthetic materials, and specialty bases
• Develop analytical methods and translate complex requests into sensible experiments and/or technical approaches
• Present results, interpretations, and next steps to internal customers
• Plan and execute complex analytical technical work under the direction of technical leaders
• Drive IP Strategy for focused initiatives to maximize IFF competitive position
• Provide technical leaders with clear updates on various initiatives. 
• Liaise with various internal cross functional and cross-divisional colleagues and external collaborators.
• Foster a collaborative mindset and build a relationship of trust with other fragrance functions (Scent Design Managers, Perfumers, Marketing, Consumer Insights) to enrich and accelerate the creative process.
• Demonstrate good written and communication skills. 
   

Required Experience/Skills:

• B.S. in chemistry or related field.  M.S. is preferred.  At minimum 5 years industry lab experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetic, consumer goods, flavor or fragrance industry
• Knowledgeable in lab safety, relevant application, raw materials, & chemical processes
• Proven track record of designing experiments and problem-solving
• Can work independently on projects without direct manager supervision
• Olfactive and analytical knowledge of composition and main components of natural essentials oils, aroma chemicals, synthetics and specialty bases
• Ability of operate and troubleshoot GC/MS instruments
• Proven record of clear report writing and written methodologies
• Olfactive discrimination skills
• Project Management skills
