About the Department of Permitting Services
The Department of Permitting Services is seeking to fill a Fiscal Assistant position in the Central Service’s Unit. The Department of Permitting Services' (DPS) primary mission is to promote the health, safety, welfare, and economic wellbeing of residents, businesses, and communities in Montgomery County with timely, professional, transparent, and consistent review and processing of plans and permits and through inspections of structures, rights-of-way, and development.
About the Position
This position performs paraprofessional accounting work and requires a basic understanding of accounting systems, policies and procedures to examine and verify processes, and the capability to maintain accounts and accounting data.
What you’ll be doing
The person in this position is responsible for a full range of financial and administrative support duties for the Customer Support & Outreach Division, in the Fee Payment Office. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Processing payments for a high volume of permits, bonds, licenses, and impact taxes;
- Invoicing and processing refunds, bonds, requisitions, and chargebacks;
- Making journal entries, conducting audits, and preparing financial reports;
- Assisting administrative support staff with deposits and returned checks;
- Assisting customers in creating accounts with the department’s permitting and licenses system, passwords, and on-line payments;
- Logging-in, sorting, and tracking mail, and other duties related to day-to-day operations.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible, fiscally-related clerical experience (e.g., posting journal entries, processing fiscal actions using automated systems) including demonstrated proficiency with integrated word processing and spreadsheet functions.
Education: Completion of an Associate of Arts degree with a major in Accounting or completion of 12 acceptable college credit hours in Accounting.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
Preferred Criteria
There are no Preferred Criteria. All applicants will be reviewed by OHR for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated Qualified, placed on the Eligible List, and may be considered for an interview.
Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following:
- Experience in the review, evaluation, and processing of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Experience using ERP/Oracle Financial or similar financial systems.
- Experience using personal computer operating systems and Microsoft 365.
- Experience interacting with other departments, employees, vendors, and customers in a businesslike, customer service-oriented manner.
