Position Summary
Responsible for awarding all Santa Fe Community College's (SFCC) Scholarship Programs. Also responsible for participating in a variety of Financial Aid functions related to packaging Financial Aid awards for the students of the Santa Fe Community College. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.
This role offers the opportunity for a hybrid remote work arrangement as determined by the Director of Financial Aid.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists in electronically processing and authorizing all aid during peak times during each semester.
  • Awards scholarships for all SFCC Foundation programs.
  • Awards six separate scholarships for NMHED and completes and submits required semester reporting for each.
  • Awards, conducts orientation, tracks attendance and grades, and posts monthly aid for up to 50 Contract for Better Tomorrow recipients.
  • Aids in creating reports for scholarship donors.
  • Audits files for discrepancies and processes revisions as appropriate.
  • Creates panels to evaluate and rate SFCC Foundation applications.
  • Conducts scholarship workshops and one-on-one student consultations to help with FAFSA
  • and scholarship application.
  • Cancels and reduces funding as appropriate.
  • Counsels students and parents.
  • Evaluates verification documents.
  • Evaluates and determines student eligibility for student grants and scholarships.
  • Maintains, manages, and troubleshoots Award Spring scholarship software.
  • Maintains work-related files and records.
  • Manages existing scholarship detail codes and creates new codes for new funding.
  • Monitors programs to ensure audit compliance with regulatory agencies; submits reports to federal and state agencies.
  • Prepares required financial files and records
  • Prepares correspondence and reports.
  • Processes federal applications and related documentation.
  • Processes a wide variety of applications and forms.
  • Serves on the Appeals Committee to review satisfactory academic progress appeals.
  • Supervises Student Employees
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and Title IV Financial Aid program policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of state and college policies and requirements for rewarding scholarships.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and filing systems.
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
  • Skill in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Ability to collect data and draw conclusions.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two (2) years experience in Financial Aid, finance, accounting, or other closely related field
  • Equivalent-related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

OR
  • Associate's degree
  • Four (4) years experience in Financial Aid, finance, accounting, or other closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the areas of Financial Aid processes in higher education environment preferred.
  • Experience using Student Information System (SIS)
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Physical Demands
  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
  • The work is typically performed in an office.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required.

Work Hours
  • Typically 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work after-hours and/or weekends.
