Responsibilities
Peraton has an immediate opening for an Aerospace Engineering Department Manager at White Sands Complex in Las Cruces, NM who will lead a team of engineers dedicated to maintaining the health and safety of the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) fleet and STPSat-6.
Peraton is the prime contractor for NASA at the White Sands Complex (WSC) near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Operating here are two functionally identical satellite ground terminals: The White Sands Ground Terminal, and the Second TDRSS Ground Terminal. These ground terminals ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASA's orbiting fleet of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft (satellites), and the computer systems that support such spacecraft. WSC serves as an interface for distributing satellite data to control centers and scientists who then use the daily influx of data to expand our ever-growing knowledge of the Earth and the universe.
This position will be responsible for the following :
  • Manage task allocation among TDRS Analysts, Spacecraft Sustaining Engineers, and the STPSat-6 Flight Engineers.
  • Develop and submit technical reports on routine and contingency spacecraft activities.
  • Providing technical assistance during TDRS and STPSat-6 operational activities, as required.
  • Provide accurate, articulate, quick turnaround notifications and status updates for anomalies.
  • Briefing stakeholders on anomalies and changes to spacecraft state of health.
  • Review/approve procedures for performing spacecraft activities, including battery management, station-keeping maneuvers, and momentum unloads.
  • Support payload performance tests at remote ground terminals as required to verify the TDRS payload is meeting required specifications.
  • Analyze and identify spacecraft anomaly root causes, then plan and execute recovery actions.
  • Occasional work during nights or weekends is required when executing activities or anomaly recoveries.
  • Spacecraft End-of-Mission planning, simulations, and execution.
  • Lead a team of multiple direct reports, subcontractors, or other team members to complete project requirements.
  • Selection and hiring of candidates for technical and management positions and conducting performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff.
  • Routine and ad hoc reporting to Government and/or Prime customers to provide status of projects and technical investigations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Experience :
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 10+ years of relative experience.
  • Prior experience in in one or more of the following components:
  • spacecraft engineering, operations, and mission planning.
  • working knowledge of satellite ground station operations, mission management, flight dynamics, system integration, and maintenance.
  • Prior experience in management or leadership of employees in a government contracting environments.
  • Experience interfacing with Government and/or Prime customers to provide status of projects.
  • Excellent management, communication, organizational, and motivational skills.
  • Possess the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Occasional travel to other sites is required.
  • Security Clearance this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance. In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship. An Interim Secret clearance is acceptable to start.
Desired Experience:
  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Prior experience working with NASA and a deep understanding of NASA's systems, standards, policies and procedures for execution and operations of their missions.
  • Experience leading a team of multiple direct reports, subcontractors, or other team members to complete project requirements
  • Project management experience in a government contracting environments.
  • MS degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Proficiency with STK, FreeFlyer, MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW.
  • Experience with spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, power sensors, and/or other RF equipment. Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
