Job Description
The Field Supervisor is responsible for providing a safe play area through field set-up, supervision, and general maintenance. This is a seasonal, part-time, non-exempt position.
Qualifications:
Must be 16 years of age. This position requires CPR/AED and First Aid (will train). General knowledge and understanding of softball rules required.
Immediate Supervisor:
Field Supervisor is accountable to the Recreation Supervisor – Athletics.
Essential Functions:
- Set-up duties:
- Arrive 45 minutes prior to first scheduled game starting time.
- Unlock restrooms at Shelter.
- Fill out scorecards according to league schedule on QuickScores and place on clipboards at appropriate fields with league rules.
- Set-up fields with bases and conduct any last-minute field maintenance.
- Set out game balls at each field and direct umpires to proper field.
- If umpire has not arrived 10 minutes before game contact him and/or back-up. (See assignment sheet).
- Actively watch/monitor the games – may require walking to multiple fields.
- Turn on field lights as it starts to get dark.
- Make sure umpires and captains sign score cards at conclusion of game.
- Monitor the weather and notify umpires and players if inclement weather is approaching.
- Monitor field conditions to ensure safety.
- Provide first aid as necessary. Complete accident and/or incident reports and leave for Recreation Supervisor in shelter softball box. If urgent care is necessary, contact 911.
- Notify (call or text) Recreation Supervisor if any issues require immediate attention or follow-up.
- Wear appropriate attire – park district issued uniform (shirt) and or hat when working.
- Communicate with players, captains and spectators in professional, courteous manner which best represents park district.
- Closing Duties (after final game):
- Collect all score cards, clipboards and put in shelter softball box for Recreation Supervisor.
- Email all game results and hours worked to Recreation Supervisor.
- Return bases to storage boxes and ensure boxes are locked.
- Collect lost and found and store in shelter.
- Turn off field lights.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Psychological Considerations:
Field Supervisor may need to resolve differences and problems that arise with players and patrons. Field Supervisor shall collaborate with the umpires to ensure a safe and well-organized league. May also have to work under stressful conditions such as close games, inclement weather, emergencies, or other unexpected situations.
Physiological Considerations:
Must have ability to lift 45 lbs. May need to respond quickly to an emergency.
Environmental Considerations:
All activities are performed outdoors. The weather can vary and include cold, wet, hot, humid, rainy, and windy conditions.
Cognitive Considerations:
Must possess good safety awareness and judgment. Must be friendly and enjoy working with people of all ages.
Work Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, and Friday evenings beginning in May 1, 2023. Up to 15 hours per week during the Spring/Summer softball season.
Salary Range
$15.50 per hour starting.
